we'll im testing the tap water right now, I've been wanting to do this anyways becuz ive been told where i live is rated #2 in the top 5 water supplies in my area. Thank you guys very much. Defininitly know y i joined a place like this. Like a big family lol
okay good luck.. hope all goes well... your welcome.. MFK is like a big family..and now you are part of this family.. welcome:naughty:

Yes, just tested the tap. it is fine the only thing that is a lil bit off is the ph, the ph is a lil high but i can deal with trying to get that down after. The only tester i dont have that ive herd the tap here might have is phosfates. Not sure wut that can do to the fish but im gunna have to try this change.

I would get rid of the powerhead and the gar both, only way to be sure. Also you may want to do a little research as it does not seen you have a good understanding regarding nitrites and nitrates. Most likely if your nitrites were at 10ppm for any extended period of time you fish would be dead.

The gar has been in the tank for about a month and like i said i tested everything about 2 weeks ago and everything was still good. so no the nitrites and nitrates have not been this way for sum time. I may be feeding too much. Which could have resulted in this. So the feeding is going to be cut down a lil.

Nitrite level of 10 ppm could kill your fish within a few hours. A healthy cycled tank will not have zero nitrates, but will have an ever rising amount of nitrate. Research is your friend.

My only thought is he swam by the power head and it sucked him in a lil. Should i get rid of the power head?

If it is dangerous to the aro then fix the problem.:duh:

no power head as SA aros like slow backwaters and not the main current...

if your "gar" looks like a 'silver gar' (just diff color) you may have a characin, look at the true gars sticky in the gar section to see if that is what you have or if it is indeed a characin...there is a 'marble gar' that is a characin...

as for your plans for tanks...i saw you said you have a 90gal cycling right now and in a few months when your aro out grows that what are your plans? since your aro is 8" already it shortens you time frame in the 90gal...

Actually my buddy was telling me it will take up to a year for this aro to double in size. So i think im fine, and as far as my gar, stay tuned ill take a picture n post it.

Again research is the key. Average growth for a silver aro is 1-1.5" per month and upto 3" per month is not unheard of. So your 8" aro will double in size in about 4-6 months, or could be less. Wait until sbuse posts how quickly his silver aro grew :WHOA:

Edit: Sorry I assumed your aro was a silver aro, reread the thread and it does not state what your aro is. What kind of aro do you have?
