Need a new computer. iMac???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Its like buying a rimless 55g for twice the price of a regular 55g.

Exactly. They both still hold water yet one looks a little better than the other without any real benefits to the function. Of course then, in the case of PCs vs. Macs, there are some pretty nice PC cases out there that give Macs a run for their money; heck, VIZIO is releasing an awesome laptop soon that certainly looks better than a Macbook.

get a mac book pro... if you have a local apple store, they will probably have a student discount which when you buy a mac book pro they give you a free printer and itouch, thats what i did before my freshmen year.

Apple store offers students like 100 dollar discount and does NOT have an ADH warranty plan. Go though Best Buy. Especially if you're like me and get a free replacement every 12 or so months (lol, I'm cursed...)

I'm a screenwriting major and needed a Mac for Final Cut, an editing program. So when my Sony pooped on me, I investigated.

Mind I know next to nothing of computers and hardware but from personal experience.... HP sucks, Asus is worse, Gateway is ok, Toshiba is a good computer for cheap. My Vaio was my favorite PC that I had. It was the hardiest and all-around best PC I have played with/owned.

That being said, I also love my Apple. I've got a MacBook Pro. Stock, it can handle Final Cut Pro X (Not a small program) with little problems. I did have to get the upgraded OS though. But now I can search the web, run FCP, and bounce around in word documents. If you do get an Apple, don't get their office thing. I don't like it. Pay the extra money to just get regular Office. And another thing about the Apple, its hardy. I've dropped my laptop so many times! Its downright disgraceful but also the reason I didn't go through Apple to get the thing in the first place. I've got two dents and some modest scratches on the outside of the machine but it does not seem to have affected the overall performance at all.

Well, that was probably next to useless, but its the best I got...Good luck!

And I just realized that you're talking about the iMac. We've got those at school and several of my classmates have them. I have not heard a complaint yet. Everyone I know seems to love them. One of my classmates has one that's lie a 40" (not really) screen! Its huge!

But for what you want to do, go either Sony or Toshiba, depending on what you want to spend.

Remember that when you buy a mac you're basically being forced to pay for hundreds of dollars of software that you most likely won't use. I have friends who brag about all the "free" editing software that their mac came with, yet they don't use any of it. I'd rather build a custom pc, only buy the software that I plan on using, and save quite a bit of money.

I'll build you a computer that will kick a Mac's butt and it will cost far far less. PM me if you want some computer options. Or if you want something specific can just build one.

Mac all the way

No worries with a mac. No viruses, no slowing down. I have buddies that have spent 5x what a mac costs just in repairs and cleanup in 1 year.

Pcs might be better for you hi-tech computer guys but i just want a computer that works and is fast. With a mac there are no worries.

If your buddies spend $5000 in repairs and cleanup in a year then they are idiots, need to stay away from sketchy porn sites, and probably should just be banned from the internet.
