Mac Overpriced overrated overprice overrated overprice overrated overprice overrated. Sorry mac is just over rated/price. Compare pc and mac with the "same specs" and I mean same everything from software to internal components and ask your self why is mac more money?????? Ill tell you why.....read the first sentence....virus on a mac?! They are the same on pc, just when it cames to fixing mac its going to cost you a arm a leg and a hole in your back pockect/ purse, and just like what every mac person says.....pc has more viruses!!!!! Of course they're going to get more viruses!.......its a pc world!,,,and if it was a pc/mac world guess who's paying more"?" Hahaha everyone knows the anwser ............ but mac looks cool lol

Widespread Virus Proves Macs Are No Longer Safe From Hackers

As you can see, the "Macs don't get viruses" argument is dead. As I stated before, Apple is gaining more market share partly as a result of this myth, and hackers are capitalizing on the stupidity of many Mac users who believe that their Mac is the best thing since sliced bread & can't ever get one of those virus things that the "nasty" PCs get.

More people use PCs therefor more stupid people are using PCs, that is why it seems like they have more issues and viruses, it's just operator error. The fact that many PCs sold are also outdated before they are even built doesn't help things. But people want their $300 laptop and don't look at the specs. That is one positive that macs have, if you buy a new one you know it should last you a while.

Say you buy the lowest price iMac for $1200. I will use my $700 build as comparison.

Processor
* iMac - 2.5ghz i5
* Mine - 3.4ghz i5
My build is much faster

Memory (RAM not Storage)
* iMac - 4gb
* Mine - 8gb
My build has double the RAM all iMacs do

Storage
* iMac - 500gb
* Mine - 500gb
Same storage capacity

Graphics (don't need a fancy one unless you are gaming basically or working with 3d models)
* iMac - ATI Radeon HD 6750M
* Mine - Nvidia GTX 550 ti
Mine graphics card has double the memory and is much faster

Only thing about my build was I had a copy of Windows through my college so I didn't need to buy it. Unless you already have a copy or have a crack copy you would need to buy it which is an extra $100.

Another being the monitor, already had mine which iMacs are built in. So unless you have a monitor or tv you can use that would be another extra cost. 21" monitors are around $150 but you could go bigger or smaller, cheapest iMac has a 21" monitor.

One thing about iMacs is if something breaks you have to take it in. Something breaks on mine I can easily swap it out.

Basically you could build a nice computer thats much better than the cheapest iMac and still save at least $200.

Why all the replies here saying "I can build a pc myself, & cheaper than an imac.. etc etc"? This OP didn't ask about DIY pc techie-builds. he wants to buy a computer. Simple inquiry: the pros & cons of imac vs pc's.

pc Pros: read previous posts.

Here's my limited "Switching from pc to mac FOR DUMMIES" about a couple basics:
You said you do Photoshop work. pc's freeze up often & it becomes chronic with big graphics. That's no big deal if you have a brainiac techie friend on call to fix things for you.
If you don't, just shoot the computer & buy a new one (fairly cheap). It feels GOOD.
W/pc's BACK-UP EVERYTHING, CONSTANTLY. You will lose something eventually, one thing being--> your temper.

imac handles graphics better. IME, that is the single biggest "pro" side to mac. freeze ups are rare, all mine have been website-related, not graphics-related. and don't repeat constantly when I log back onto the same site. Why? I have no idea! I'm a dummy.
Pro: Apple stores have walk-in services. My husband has used it for trouble-shooting things he messed up or didn't understand, never had a mac 'break' yet. Con: no Apple store near us. Pro: Haven't truly needed one yet.
Con: Having learned on pc's, re-orienting to macs is harder than I anticipated. but I was much younger & more motivated when learning pc's. *My husband says* I don't take advantage of all the options available for pc addicts to make the transition easier. He uses every option available & does fine. plus he's more motivated, like an Upgrade addict.

Graphics professionals who must have stability to make their living, use macs. and there are reasons for that.

With "Parallels Desktop for Mac", you can use familiar pc programs on macs too.
You probably have a sharp young college mind, and may not need that, but it's available.

Good luck with your decision.

There is no need to build anything yourself, I got a local company to build me a top of the line computer with a 27 inch LED monitor for under a thousand. I can play any game, graphics maxed out. I can play blu ray, watch files, surf the Internet, play music, and do photoshop with no lag whatsoever. All at the same time

Does anyone know the percentage of mac owners to pc owners? Seems more and more people are turning to macs these days so just wondering if anyone knows the percentage.

I dont know any specifics but someone told me that mac software is written differently thats why its harder to hack and get viruses...is this why macs dont get viruses? Or is it because no one cares to hack macs yet? It seems everyone has either an iphone, ipad, ipod, or macbook and i have never heard of anyone ever getting a virus. Can anyone explain this?

Because when it comes to shelling out money on a computer, theres no reason to spend way more than you need to something you don't need. Macs are simply a pretty looking standardized computer unlike PC where there are so many combinations with hardware. If your buying a cheap prebuilt computer you would run into problems that a mac might not have. Buying prebuilt computers are just as pointless as buying a mac unless your are so technically impaired you can't hook up an entertainment center.

PC
Pros: Cheaper, more powerful, more compatability
Cons: More susceptible to viruses compaired to mac

Mac
Pros: Pretty, less susceptible to virus
Cons: Over priced, not as powerful

As far as photoshop goes, that has nothing to do with PC vs Mac, it has to do with your hardware. If your using a $300 computer pre built then yes your gonna have problems using it. It relies heavily on your graphics card.

macs make up less than 10% of the market, this is the real reason they don't get viruses.
