Need advice about Thorichthys Meeki fry..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bought some fry food today, when should I offer it to them? I'm going to try a turkey baster to get it close to them. My temperature is close to 80° right now.

Don't feed the fry until they all go free-swimming. Only feed a little the first day (I've found they don't eat well until the second day free-swimming), then do small frequent feedings over the next few days. You'll know they're eating when you see full yellow/orange stomachs on the fry.

Fry keep their yolk sacks till they begin free swimming so don't feed the fry food till then. Don't do the turkey baster cause the parents might think its a threat and eat the fry. I just sprinkle the food into the outflow of the h.o.b.

Just talked to the wife, she said she can't see the fry anymore, I really hope they didn't eat them :( the female hid them again in a different spot today before I left for work so I'm hoping she just didn't look too hard. The female also excavated a rock a little bit too much and I had to move it back or it would've crushed them. So maybe she got pissed and devoured them, fingers crossed I go home in 35 minutes so I'll be looking hardcore.

Good news is that they are still alive, she really did some rearranging of the entire side they took over for spawning. What a relief, I can go to sleep tonight in peace.

The will move the fry a few times. They also dig multiple false pits to confuse predators. The rock thing I wouldn't worry much about they do that a lot. They know how far under a rock they can dig with out it falling.

Alright, that makes me feel better. I just would be really bummed out if anything were to happen to them.

first few spawns may yield in loss of frys from the parents trying to get it right, but eventually ( third or fouth spawn ) they should get it right.

I don't think this is the pairs first time spawning cause they are still alive and well. If they were inexperienced the fry would have died already.

These guys just reached sexual maturity, they were babies last summer. I've never seen eggs until last week.
