Hi I am in Houston area, as Hurricane Ike approaches we have been told to expect power outages for upwards of 5 days to as much as 20 days!

Last Hurricane Rita I lost power for 9 days and lost about 5 out of 11 fish [2 being frontosa's.]

I don't have a generator as they are of course sold out...What do you suggest I do to maximize the chances of my fish surviving..

What I am planning so far is to do a water change every other day, and 3 battery operated pumps for air.....anything else I should do?
Thanks in advance....

air filter and float your media. and try to reg your temps. i would think you could put hot bottles of water to help warm(correct me if im wrong) because others use ice bottles of water to keep it cool

just keep alot of batterys handy. cause if the power is goin to be out for 20 days good luck. and the pumps should be ok. just do a water change every day till u lose power so the tank doesnt get horabley dirty. good luck

you have it covered. Hope all turns out for the best.

i agree that an inverter is your best bet. mine is always ready for action when its storming. still love the looks i get from the nieghbors when they drive by and see the truck on the front porch but it works great. you can run it off the lawn tractor if your worried about using too much fuel. you can run the system as if noyhings wrong:)

i am building a 12v generator for such ocassions to run my inverters w/o using as much fuel.
