Need Advice first true cichlid tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, when I first had my 55 gallon set up,I had the Oscar,Jack Dempsey,Severum,Green Terror in the set up,but less than a year later,I upgraded to a 125 gallon tank, where I am able to have more options for stocking fishes. So I don't see why you can't have a JD included, they all grow slow, except you may expect your JD to outgrow them quicker.

This would work out then so how about add a firemouth at an 1 inch bigger than convict and convict 1 inch bigger than jack or would it be better to put all in at same time at same size

u could do 1 firemouth 1 female salvini 1 convict and they be fine.

I do have a female Salvini, very colorful fish, its like she always waiting for me to put into the tank a new decoration of some sort like a driftwood. If you want something that really stands out,go with a Electric Blue Jack Dempsey,I currently have one that is 1 inches now in a temporary 10 gallon tank to himself.

there not easy to keep and they can get parasites very easily..

Yes. But keep in mind a male Jack Dempsey will eventually reach 10" or more, it is not a small sized cichlid like convicts and firemouths.

I agree

I'd say get a few Texas, Salvinis could add some nice color & can hold it's own with the Texas. Cons & FM's could work too.
Some smaller catfish to work as your cleanup crew.
It really depends on what type of fish your after.
