Need Advice first true cichlid tank

If you are unsure about dempseys then get Salvinis. Def. one of the most beautiful cichlids with a loooot of personality and color. I'm in love with mine and it's only been like a month.

How big do those get and where would be good place to possibly find them also are they hardy and for dempsys it is a positive fact that females will have a lot more blue on face

They get to about 6". Females are smaller and much more colorful than males.

I second the salvini idea. They have a very unique coloration compared to most new world cichlids and their small-medium adult size makes them a good candidate for a lot of setups. Great fish.

Actually if my lfs does carry slavinis may just not get convict because of their aggressiveness and get jack and salvini one morequestion are salvinis a hardy fish just wondering

U could keep Jewels with your firemouths n convicts, they r great looking fish, and stay around the same size

Salvini are pretty hardy, yes, but many of them are just as aggressive as cons. I'd probably give cons a slight edge in aggressiveness overall, but salvini are close. It all depends on the individual fish though.
