NEED ADVISE! considering a 72 gallon planted tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
alrighty thats some good advice. I'm looking into getting 6-8 angel fish for breeding purposes. I found a breeding pair on craigslist but the guy wants $100....sounds like a rip off to me. My arowana didn't even cost as much as each of those angel fish would.

That does sound alot for 'normal' angels (P scalare). I don`t know much about angels though so that price could be right depending on colour or variety.
P altum or P dumerili are quite rare, and more delicate than scalare. Perhaps he was selling a pair of these?

its they are a large breeding pair of silver angelfish. I think I'll stick with buyin them young and hopefully get a pair out of 8 of them. I just noticed this morning a film of mucous-like material that is now covering my entire piece of driftwood...any idea what this is?

I had the same thing happen with some new wood I got...I asked my lfs owner about it and he said it was normal and gave me a write up on the wood....can't remember the name of it now.
As long as it doesn't smell bad you are ok!

I`ve had that too. It`s worrying but it goes after a while. I also had it on some almond leaves I put in the tank recently. I thought it was some fungus or something.:WHOA: I was that worried I`d introduced something bad into the tank I posted a thread on it. :grinno:

Good luck getting your angels. Getting a group of young is a good idea because you can enjoy watching them grow, also the pairing up. If you do get any fry you can take all the credit. Much more rewarding if you ask me.

i have had success with plants and have done nothing extra, except fert. tablets that are put into the substrate under the plants. Here is the site where I have bought the plants. shipping is a bit high but worth it. http://www.aquariumplants.com/. stick to the "beginner" and "low light" plants and you should be fine. Also check on the fish that you choose to stock, some will eat your plants, others enjoy pulling them out of the substrate. so far your new set up looks like a great start.

I will consider gettin the tablets soon when my student loan check comes in...nothin better than spendin college loans on fish obsession:D I just sold my whole stock list for this tank by advertising on craigslist for only a day! the $20 was spent on 3 cory cats and my gf bought me a chinese algea eater and octocinclus....hopefully I get angel fish for XMAS!!!

some update pics of tank and new inhabitants:D
