NEED ADVISE! considering a 72 gallon planted tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I now have to main concerns with this tank....
1- I don't know how often to dose my tank with this Nutrafin Plant Grow Iron Enriched plant fertilizer. It recommends 35ml for 70gal. but it doesn't say how often.
2- The clear mucosa growing all over my driftwood is rapidly getting bigger and worries me quite a bit, not to mention it just looks plain ridiculous.

The stuff on the driftwood is fungus or something similar. It is harmless; scrape it off if you want. It will go away after a few weeks.

If you`ve not dosed with ferts yet, DON`T.

1. You have new substrate (gravel?) so this alone has enough nutrients for the time being!

2. You don`t have that many plants, so they wouldn`t be able to use up the ferts fast enough, which means excess and excess ferts means ALGAE.

I read on another forum that the only thing I can do to get rid of this transparent mucous-like algae is remove it and let it dry out for 1 month, soak in a chemical bath for 1 month, or boil it for several hours until all of the materials inside of it leach out. I have decided to take it back to the store today and by different wood that I have never had problems with.
I got three new angel fish the other day so I will be posting pics later this evening. However, my plants aren't looking so good, the edges of the leaves on most plants seem to be curling and shriveling up. I have no idea how much Nutrafin Plant Grow I should be putting in so this could be a problem.
