Any fish you add should be longer then the rays disk is wide... from experiance.. my female retic actively hunts other fish... she has been fine however with my spiney eels. She eats 3"+ goldfish when I feed the gar, actively hunting and pouncing on them. My tanks pretty bio-diverse.

I will keep this in mind! I have several grow out tanks so even if I get stuff a little small I can grow it some before I add them together. My female doesn't hunt fish too much but my male is always looking for a quick meal. It is weird though he wound eat small pbass just the feeders I put in, knock on wood. Any experiences with severums and rays? I am going to try to pick up some geos on friday too!

i would go oscar cause there to agreesive and at least in my opinion could be filled by other more peacefull types of ciclids. Any of the geo's wont be a problem could even go discus with your rays if you have eveuff decore. I have angle fish with mine, try and stay more peacfull with your rays rather then all out aggression that say an oscar would bring. key wholes, flag tails cichlids, looks into some of the large SA some are nice and peacefull. At the top you may even be able to get like golden wonder killie fish, to go on got with rays mabye brichers or eels but try and stay more passive in general.

hell all of the kinds of severus look nice and are much more passive then an oscar. there are green, gold, red shoulder, and supper red sevrums all get 7 8 inch tall in body.

I keep trying to find larger more passive cichlids, but I am kinda lost at where to even start as I am not overly sure what exactly I am looking for. I have spent the whole night searching for these fish, via the South American cichlid forum and google, but like I said I really am not even sure what it is that I am looking for. Do you have any more specific larger and peaceful cichlids that you would recommend to get me pointed in the right direction? All the help is greatly appreciated!

Hoplarcus pssiticus or true parrot cichlids. I have had 3 and they are pretty docile, and can get some nice size to them. Their coloring is really impressive as they mature.

Satanoperca leucasticta, daemon, geophagus altifrons, abalios, uaru, severum, temporalas. All these fish grow 10-12 inch and all very peaceful and great additions to an Amazonian biotope.... Do it mate!

Big fat geos lol they look awesome well the red heads at least IMO, I plan on growing up some and placing them in hopefully a 300 gallon soon.

I have always had Geo Altifrons with my rays with no problem, they get a lot bigger than red heads. Hoplarchus are great but not if you manage to get a pair together as they really turn up the aggression when spawning! Mine had a real go at my 15" Leopoldi. Also Megladoras Irwini(or uranscopulus or whatever it is called now) they are a great catfish and always go perfectly with rays. As for a shoaling fish if you can find spotted silver dollars they can look stunning especially the males, they are almost as nice as black bar red hooks, Myleus schomburgkii.
Hope that gives you some ideas

Thanks! I am ordering black bars in the spring since our one dealer has them almost all the time. I would pay like $15 a piece for 6" ones. I am going to try to get some different severums and geos here as soon as I can as well! I think I may also try to get an irwini as well if I can find one! Keep the ideas coming everyone this is really turning into an awesome thread!
