Hey guys. So my Lima shovel nose died today. He was almost a year old. This morning he seemed fine doing his normal thing. This afternoon when I returned from school he was dead. I noticed a weird tumor looking thing around his stomach area that might have to do with something. I really wanna know what happened to this guy so I could avoid it in the future.

Pics would be essential in this matter, sounds like intestinal blockage, have you noticed him going #2 recently?

Also what do you feed him and what are your params.

So sorry my friend, that stinks.

Sorry that post was made in a hurry. Water params are normally as always. Still with that 0-10 NO2 so weekly wc were occurring. I don't think I have ever witnessed it pooping. Here are some pics.

I would put it down to one of those things unless it happened again. There's plenty of reasons why fish die. Keep up regular water changes and general maintenance and dust yourself down and either try again or use it as an opportunity to try something different as a replacement. Sorry fella to hear about it tho.

Whatever it is its not good, may even be a parasite eating it from the inside all tho that's my most extreme guess.

Is there any thing else in the tank that could bite it?

Yes my red tail payara and gar could bite it. But I could tell if he was bit by it. There are signs of my ropefish gnawing at the corpse. I can also add that it hadn't eaten two weeks prior to its death. I didn't think anything of it because it wasn't his first "hunger strike"

Looks like an ulcer formed. The initial damage could have been a spine puncture (another catfish?) or something else sharp poked him. Payara's fang could do it, I imagine, but most likely would see two fang punctures. A gar would leave a series, a row of small punctures, but theoretically could leave just two, one is hard to imagine. It likely happened before 2 weeks ago, got infected or caused internal damage which didn't heal - he stopped eating.
