Need better way of cleaning poo from sand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just took the end off from my gravel vac and used just the hose itself to spot clean the poo. Simple, effective, and no $$$ spent. As long as you keep the hose just above the sand you will suck up little to no sand and all the poo.

No drinking lol If it works out that way i explained drop me a line. But place the new hose a few inches in or over either way too guarantee no leaking. I'm sure you don't want too end up with a puddle of water on your floor hope it helps bud.

You could always just make a new one. Start with a piece of PVC for your vac portion. Then, just pick a good size hose and find the parts that will adapt them together. I couldn't tell you how many times I have built things inside the store. LOL

Pump, filter, hose/fittings=$55, give or take a few. Depends on what you have already.
Works like a champ. Can swap out regular filter cartridge for the 5 micron, carbon cartridge for polishing.

Thanks for the ideas everybody:D
So what Im am going to do is, addapt a bigger hose to the end that hooks to the sink. That was my original thought but wanted to get some more ideas from everybody. I have two gravel vacs so I can experiment on the oldest of the two. Plus with a bigger hose, WC's will be a lot faster on the 150.
KaiserSousay, thats a pretty good idea you have going there. Might have to build something like that in the future.

Keep the ideas coming everybody.I would like to see what kinda DIY WCers that you have come up with.

The plan for my new tank is to set up a second filter-sock in the sump, and then siphon water into it with a large diameter hose. Provided the flow of the siphon isn't greater than what the return pump is flowing, the overflow takes care of the difference. It should pretty much be functionally identical to KaiserSousay's machine, without he hefty $55 price tag :p

I could vacuum all day long at 317gal/hr and not have to add water afterwards :)

The diameter of the python gravel tube is too large.

I made a DIY attachment with 1/2" PVC pipe that connects to the python hose. It will suck up about anything that fits in the pipe.
