wow, both sides even. it does look like the bone is falling apart inside. a similar thing happened to me.
when i got my gator he was being kept in terrible conditions (a 29g) at 12" !!!!!
anyways, one time i was watching and he was going up for air i spooked him and he hit my center brace and peel his skin back and it looked exactly like that.
after it healed, i watched it happen again about 2 months later, only this time when i looked the bone looked solid.
so i guess what im saying is that the conditions/diet of his previous owner probably caused all of this. mine healed up in about 2 weeks, with the salt and w/c's
