Need help all the discus are going south!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Bacterial infections I treat at 75 degrees and I also like kanamycin for an antibiotic. 86 is just a crazy temperature for treating bacterial infections. I'd drop it as low as the discus can tolerate temporarily.

With a bacterial infection High temps is not always the best thing to do because it may rapdily reproduce. But, with that said if you were treating with the proper meds and in a QT tank with clean pristine water conditions higher temperatures will help speed up the metabolism and immune system of the fish to help fight the disease.
It's been 5 days since this was posted and he was 5 days into the issues... I hope for the best for these guys!

are your fish getting enough oxygen? this happened to my discus and as soon as i put an air stone in they were looking better, then i salt bathed them for 5 seconds each and they seemed fine.

And this is why you quarantine no matter how trusted the source is. Keep your temps up, and keep up your water changes, those fish are in very bad shape. Most of the time I see issues like this it is caused by a huge upswing in nitrate levels. and rays will definitely do that to a tank.

It wasn't caused by the rays because we had moved 3 of the discus out of this tank and into a friends tank before I ever introduced the rays. And those 3 still got this fungus as well. We ended up losing 3 of them and the rest seem to be doing much better now.
A day before we lost them, I noticed small holes in the upper heads and around the eyes. If it were on cichla I would have Said it was heth but im not sure what would cause it on discus
