I could imagine it being a high end one i nthe future because in NYC there is this corner store that sells these guys fully grown for about 1-2k ..just give it a bunch of color enhancers to bring out the black and red ..do some research on what specificly you need for what color ..compliment it with coral light spectrum to make the pigments come out and stay... and occationally give it a mirror ..i think it would come out to be very very high end in the right hands.

this high end Fh ur talkin bout is 3.5" possibly bought at AK in in the east end $2**, if not then nvm

Very incorrect, and I believe YOU need to research, it's all in the genes of the FH. You can't make a $10 low grade flowerhorn into a MP no matter WTF you do PERIOD.

well beauty is in the eye of the beholder (above post proves my point) ..and unlike people that enjoy being told what to like..i use what is called personal preference

You can go ahead and research and let people tell you what is good or not in terms of grade because i really want to know ...JP so what exactly is a MP again ...please enlighten us with the offical definition...

how much pearls does it take JP or how big does the head have to be ..

wait by your quote it seems like we must know the entire map of the Flowerhorn genome first because its in the genes which i know you already did!! hahah you making me laugh so hard dude

please dont give me the genes crap because no one can tell you what genes will be expressed and when.. when you were a baby no one could say hey little JP you're going to be low grade and short and fat...if they can and you accept that fact haha i really am wasting my time with you (get it my thread hahah)...

Damn even in a single celled organism its hard for the different strains of E.coli to know the entire code for the all the genes present and what combinations would yeild what phenotypical changes in appearance.. that are expressed..and get this its very much related to their environment and conditions because its about survival...

So please do us a favor and quit saying its in the genes cause YOU DONT KNOW WHAT GENES that flowerhorn has..(my example was with single celled organisms which are prokaryotic cells..imagine the complexity with multicelled organisms that are eukaryotic like fish)

I am a biochemistry major dude you are talking to the wrong person about genes, research, and anything science related.. in addition to that i am a medical student ...haha

Do you seriously believe that environment, diet composition, and activity dont play any role in appearance of a fish..

are you living in a hole dude!! why dont you live in a closet, eat junk food, and sleep all day see if you look excellent because its in your genes and then you will definitely be a master piece PERIOD..hahha

besides I didnt say it would be a master piece I said "very very high end" meaning expensive atleast in NYC and notice i talked about cost of fish first...

if you ever been there in the corner of mott St hit it up in c-town and you see these guys with single flowerlines with large as humps and the same amount of reds go for 1-2k and to even my suprise selling ..

(sigh supply and demand dude..just cause you in MD doesnt mean that the supply in NYC is of the same quality.. NYC is the largest china town there is in the United States ..do you question the demand when the origins are all for chinese fortune crazes...)

read my post carefully ..i said there is a place in NYC where a very similar fish sells at adult size for 1-2k, so i can imagine it being very high end in the right hands because JP

All that is require is to have black markings for it to look like the same one they sell in NYC for 1-2k..matter of fact ill take a picture for you and post it tomorrow..

One last thing dude chill out with your attitude just cause you like spending big bucks on money importing fish and MPs.. doesn't mean thats the only way to get a MP hahah

as much as you might want that to be the truth..your NOT THAT SPECIAL

There is another method of getting quality fish and that is by having a bit of luck and investing in a 10 dollar fry that becomes a MP too with TLC.

If that option doesnt exist for you in your cynically twisted reality then its ok..but respect opinions instead of flaming peoples comments please.. gosh you just got me really annoyed by your comment lol

Sorry if the faded version here in the picture is taking the thunder from your 3.5 incher monster lol

There's no way in hell I am reading all this, but all I meant is that what you said about "quality foods, hormone foods, and right lighting" will make any FH into a 1-2k fish like the FHs in NYC Chinatown is COMPLETELY wrong. That's it.

As long as you give them proper diet(Who doesn't with their beloved FHs?) with a nice pellet as a staple, and give treats with prawn, shrimp,bw,brine shrimp, and mysis etc...... is more than good enough. The rest is in the "genes" of your FH. If their parents had head, color, pearl and etc.... genes, your FH will have higher chance of having those characteristics, and they show like a sore thumb as little as 1".

It's okay, MOST of the FH noobs post arguments like this and when they actually learn and get into the FH game, you will realize how much a dumbass you were back then arguing:ROFL:

Buy ALL LFS FH frys for $8 all day and give them the perfect diet, hormone diet, lighting for right kinds of FH as you state and make them all into 1-2K fish and become a millionaire!! Lastly, I am not an ass. I never bash on peoples FHs unless they ask for opinions/potential and I tell them brutally honest. I just can't stand illiterate people giving dumbass tips to others when they have no idea what they are talking about.

***Definition of a MP FH sure does vary to one person to another, but when you see a MP, they will most likely all agree it is a MP****

JP

I am not going to read all of either of those posts but I read enough and biochemistry major or not. What JP said relating to flowerhorn is true. You can baby, feed all the best foods, provide the best environment, whatever you wish to do, but if the flowerhorn is of poor grade to being with. Than it will never be a MP and that my friend does have to do with the genes! You also have a point though when you said beauty was in the eye of the beholder because it is. However by the standards that govern the flowerhorn world, and that particular sector of the hobby, that a long is not enough. enough said.;)

Now back to the topic of this thread. Owner and creator of this thread, now that your fish is okay. Would you mind providing a picture of your fish? I myself would love to take a look at it:popcorn:;)

I was talking about the one in the picture ..and you can bring out the colors wiht a select diet not just any good diet..it is specific JP.

Carotenoid pigments are red and orange.
Xanthophylls are yellow.
Melanin pigments are black and brown.
Phycocyanin is the blue pigment derived from blue-green algae.
Cells containing yellow pigments overlying those containing blue pigments can produce green hues.

Fish are capable of producing some pigments, but others must be supplied in the diet.

Black and brown pigments are produced in cells called melanocytes.
Fish are incapable of producing carotenoid and xanthophyll pigments.

Therefore, these must be supplied in the diet. The colors of the one in the picture can be made better ...

--------------------------

The one in the picture (KAABBB posted) doesn't look like it has bad genes or comes from parents that has bad genes so stop speaking in general.

Not all genes are expressed in the offspring even if it comes from beautiful parents and no one can tell if those that come from bad ugly parents have genes in their lineage that can later be expressed in the future. That my friend is biochemistry and genes and a complexity that goes beyond just having your parents carry the gene for a specific phenotype/appearance.

Everything is multi-facet and no one is dumb for saying that there are multiple factors that cause a fish to look the way it does.

It is said in your rules for noobs thread why not use a black gravel or wall background environmental factors while certain factors might have a bigger influence on the appearance its not absolute. (You are not an ass but you insist a inferior status given to those that are new to the hobby hmmm.. good one JP very smooth.)

I NEVER SAID THAT A LOW GRADE CAN BECOME A MASTER PIECE DONT PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH PLEASE.

WHAT I DO SAY IS THE ONE IN THE PICTURE CAN BE TURNED INTO A 1-2K FISH AND BE SOLD IN NYC TO BUSINESS CHINA MEN FOR THE SOLE REASON THAT ITS SUPPOSE TO BRING GOOD LUCK. (JUST LIKE THE RED AROWANA CRAZE)

I TERMED THIS " Demand"

Just to understand this correctly.. they will all agree its a masterpiece hmmm since its all in the genes, and everyone gives a good balanced diet...no credit should be given to the owner which would make the term masterpiece an Oxy-moron.

while this is webster-dictionary.com definition of masterpiece-
1.a person's greatest piece of work, as in an art. 2.anything done with masterly skill: a masterpiece of improvisation. 3.a consummate example of skill or excellence of any kind: The chef's cake was a masterpiece. 4.a piece made by a person aspiring to the rank of master in a guild or other craft organization as a proof of competence.
