how big are your piranhas?

and how many? you said two others are fine and one died but then you mention one is staying away from the group....well if there's only two, and one is staying away, haha, what group is left?

still sounds like lack of oxygen to me but could be a tank recycling.

Ok guy so I went to the store and got a air stone......and my piranhas are looking better already one of them is chilling at mid level..... the bigger one is still alittle higher than mid way but is looking more active.....ill let you guys know how it goes....thanks for all the help

ok so i have bad news.. 4 started with 4 baby rbp...3 about a inch long one about 2 inches.....one of the small ones died the night when i got here from work....the next morning another little one died.....i place the air stone in last night and the 2 left piranhas(the 2 inch and on 1inch) seem to get better....i woke up this morning and the one inch one is dead.....the only one left standing is the 2 inch rbp......i am looking really closely at him and i can see some layer of mucus or some thing like it on his skin....but is more active than it was before....could it had been to late when i put in the air stone?could there have been too much damage done for the extra oxygen to help?did my fish get so stress that some type of parasite took advantage.....i guess my real question did the air stone fix the first problem but since my fish were under so much stress this is another problem?

what're your water paremeters? ammonia, nitrite and nitrate

jp is a pretty bright fella, if you can answer his questions he'll help you pinpoint what might have gone wrong

I did like a 10% water change yesterday..... this morning my last baby piranha is dead......this is bull crap....I have been trying my best at this I don't know what else to do....The water is amonia 0 nitite 0 and nitrate I can't remember but is under 40 witch my test kit say anything under 40 is in the safe zone......I googled tha skin problem and found 2 different forums where someone had tha same problem.......all they say todo is to add salt and raise temp...does this happen a lot with baby rbp?......

no, not generally. most red bellies that people post pics of on here are young and i don't recall too many die offs in my years here except through cannabalism

sorry to hear that the last one had died as well. never had piranhas die like that, if they were healthy from the beginning they shouldn't die off like that if your tank is properly cycled.
you said you had cichlids in there before you get the reds, how long was the tank empty (has water but no fish) between the cichlids and piranhas?
do you treat your tap water when you do wc? ph of your tank, temperature?
were they eating at all since you got them?
