HONORURU, HAWAII!
Aloha everyone,

well as the title says, my buddy isnt eating anymore since i moved him to my apt. before this he was a VERY aggressive individual, kept alone in my carport. there was slight algae bloom for a while because of the sunlight but he seemed more comfortable in the murky water. long story short, he would WOMP food all day.

Now, since ive moved him, he's refused his pellets and only took live food, some comets, guppies and roaches. he lost interest in guppies and comets and eventually roaches too. Then he started exhibiting signs of ich or something along the lines of low-oxygen sickness. twitching, head above water level, swimming into glass...so i turned up the heater for a while to like 82F, water changes etc...and still nothing. i also put a penguin powerhead rated at 300gph, afterward it stopped behaving weird, enjoys the current but still wont eat.

The fish swims regularly and everything, but is scared of food when its dropped into the tank and has lost all of its aggression. ive even tried frozen krill soaked in garlic extract. If you think it may just be "his time" then i understand, its my first fish that has outlived everything else ive ever tried to raise since i was 12. However, im trying to do all i can within my power to have him healthy again, i know that the life expectancy of most aro's are generally unknown.

Anyway, thanks for reading everyone, any help is MUCH appreciated. This all has been stressing me pretty hard in the back of my brain day-in and day-out. Ive always loved venting through forums :)\

Nigel.

Seems odd. How are the water parameters? Is he in a high traffic area? How long since you moved?

He is in a low traffic area (bedroom) and water parameters are good. temp was up at 83 and then he calmed down so i took off his heater and now he's acting funny again. seems like he's sick with SOMEthing. its been well over a month since ive moved. so its not like he can be still spooked about that. used a big black trash bag to move him, no nets. SIGH!

i guess all i can really do is conduct water changes, keep trying to feed and hope for the best.

its really heartbreaking for this kind of stuff to happen.

maybe he is just fasting... ive herd of silver aros fasting for months, but none of jars. hopefully he comes through

do you mind posting pics of your aro?

I had a 28" silver that was 4 years old, at one point, he fasted for 2 and a half months then all of a sudden one day started eating aggressively again. Just keep water in check and try to feed small amounts a few times a week to see if it takes anything

i'd love to. he's very pale though.
after work i should be able to take some that i can email to myself then post. no camera, only a blackberry lol.

thanks for that though! ive had silvers that fasted...first time this jardini has ever been this difficult since i picked him up all those years ago.

Arowanas fast especially if stressed and put into new environment.. so the fasting alone would not worry me.. how long has it been? But what would concern me is you feed live food... which is nutritionally not up to par with pellets that have heaps of vitamins etc..also did you quarenteen these feeders to make sure they were healthy.. and also he could still be having issues with ick which was probably introduced into the tank by the feeders.. so first thing make sure water is pristene and tests out okay... 2nd make sure theres no ICK and treat it if theres any sign of it.. if all that pans out okay... just sit back and be patient ..he will come around.. they can go a very long time without eating.. the main thing is he healthy... that would be my only worry.Thats along time to have your Jardini so hoping he will be okay..good luck.

also, would anyone be able to shed any light on his behavior? recently he seems to become panicked, and begins swimming dirsectly upright, keeping his head and mouth above water surface. He doesnt thrash, thankfully. sometimes he also twitches.

i researched the issue and concluded its either ich (which makes sense, i tried some feeders on him) and he took those eventually. However, he doesnt have any white spots...just behaviorly he is very eradic etc. his body actually is in very good condition other than his being very pale. Drop eye on the right side too but thats been there for a very long time.

thanks again

PS-mods, im not trying to up my post count lol.
