forget all those other forums.. we have our rules here... but we are nothing like those forums......nothing... we are awesome ... and do not worry about nonsense like that:grinno: we don't like trolls but we never care how much you have to say.. as long as you have something to say..:D

Have you tried market shrimp, scallops or fish? I just recently required an older jar and since being put in the tank, he has refused to eat pellets. He does in fact eat shrimp and scallops though.

Other than that, I'm not too keen on aros. I'm learning as well. Best of luck!

congratulations on your addition to your family :) ive been in love with aro's since i learned what they are. hehehe...anyway, i forgot to mention also that he didnt take pellets but did take roaches and a gecko or two...it wasnt his usual diet so i have not continued the feeding of those foods.

he lost interest in trying to catch guppies and comets. that one was the true heartbreaker.

all hes gonna get until he gets better (if he does) are pellets and waterchanges lol.

You might really try and toss some raw shrimp or something in there. Give him a shot at it and see if he'll take a bite.

don't ever feed your aros roaches or geckos you don't know if they walked over pesticide that was srayed by someone. I had this happen to a friend of mine who fed his aros geckos he caught and all of a sudden the next day the jar was pale and did not eat for 2wks untill it finally died. unless you have a roach farm like those breeders in Asia and can atest no pesticides were used anywhere near it stay away from live foods and stay with market shrimp and pellets.

Pale colouration of the fish is a sign of stress. Try to make it's environment less bright and turn off aqaurium lighting. Be 100% sure it's not a water issue. double triple check ammonia and nitrite ? Keep the water temp stable. Try feeding live crickets. I wouldn't add any medication to the tank unless you are 100% sure of the problem. Most times water changes and a 0.1% salt addition is all thats needed.

If the arowana is surfacing and with head out of the water usually means they are breathing in air from the atmosphere. Try increasing surface adgitation of the water to stimulate oxygenation of the water.

he's getting worse...starting to thrash whenever there's activity in the room, needless to say light pisses him off worse. there's lots of surface agitation, i've got a 1140LPH powerhead with the venturi system hooked up so aeration shouldnt be an issue. i need to get some water testing eqpt though.

i'll keep you all updated as much as i can. Thank you so much for the help thus far.

Please do your fish a favour, go out now and buy a test kit for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate.
What are your water change procedures ?
What type of filtration and how much and type of media are you using.
What size is your tank.

I'm guessing at the moment thay your tank is not properly cycled and fish is experiencing stress form elevated ammonia levels in the tank. Your fish surfacing is indicating the need for oxygen becasue the free ammonia is removing the the oxygen available in the water.

I strongly suggest using Seachem's Prime as your water conditioner, and some seachem stability to help cycle the tank.
If you can pre condition the change water before adding to the tank.

try to feed soft food, market prawn without shells, feeders like fish.
try skipping insects for a while.

is the aro "pooing" well?

might be constipation, insects are harder to digest and pass out.

just my 2 cents.
