yes, and a bit more research will indicate that all gar species are illegal in the state of Washington (i'm not happy about that, as i was born there; g/f and i were actually looking into jobs out there post-grad...you can bet i was going to be keeping the gars under sci-permit for sure!). either way, just pointing out that fact. --

Yes, we get lucky over here on the east coast.

It's hard to belive that you would just want to point out the fact that i didn't know the difference between the two gars at this size. I have never seen a gar this small before. HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT I'M NOT PREPARRED FOR IT? YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW ME OR WHAT I'VE KEPT IN THE PAST! Who cares it it is illegal here? Gars are sold in a lot of stores in Seattle, The fact that I was trying to get a baby is why I ordered it from Florida. So thanks for the info but you had no need to be rude!

i think you are combining multiple responses here...i never got on your case for not knowing the difference between the gars or said you were not prepared, however, the "who cares if it is illegal" part is why legislation is coming down hard on hobbyists...people with the same mentality are perpetuating restricted fish-keeping, and unfortunately this is often correlated with invasives, captive-release, and genetic pollution to local populations. and just because stores are selling them doesn't mean you should be buying them...i know one major supplier got pinched down in Cali for Asian arows and a lot of other banned fishes...it does happen.

while you can say whatever you want, and it may be presumptuous of people to assume you're not prepared for a gar, you definitely open yourself up to a great amount of criticism when you say "who cares if it is illegal".

you want to keep illegal fishes? at least be smart enough to keep your location private AND don't make comments like "who cares".--

Point taken E_, I was not saying that you got on my case for "Not Being Perpared" Maybe I should take things like fish being illegal in to conceration when asking questions, but the last thing I thought I'd get for an answer was " Do more research and you will find out that Gars are illegal in Washington". I know this already. Is someone going to take my fish because it's illegal? I don't think so! There are fish that are way more Illegal in Seattle than Gars, but we don't need to go there, right? Any ways, It's kind of upsetting when I was asking a question about a fish to fellow hobbbists ,in a forum that I belong to , just to get rude comments about how releaved I am going to be to know it's not what I ordered and paid for.

actually they can and will if they find out...since you already knew that it was an illeagal fish you can't even say it was an honest mistake...there are people on this site and other sites that are actually looking for this type of actions...MFK will give them all information about anyone with illegal fish when requested...lack of common sense seems to be right up there with people lying about their fish on here...if your gonna rob a bank, don't call the cops first...just a tip...
