Reading this thread made moving an aro sound harder than rocket science.

How many of you guys actually acclimatise fish over 12"?

I'll be honest...I very rarely do...

I hope this tank move fixes your problem midnight...I know how frustrating it can be when things like this can happen.

I don't acclimate period.. I just make sure the temp of the tank is the same or warmer than that of which the fish is coming from ;) No probs yet ;)

gl midnight! how is he now?
personally i dont think its still needed to acclimate bigger fish.
but, nothing bad on being safe.

when we bought a house i didnt have the luxury to wait for my new 220 to cycle. I just filled it up with new water, setuped the heaters, let the sump and cannister run (both new) and just added 2 strong powerheads. It was risky and i was nervous but i had no choice. I just prayed that theyll be ok. Thanks to God my silver aro (24inch), pbass (16inch) along with my 3 7inchs tinfoil barbs and a gibby were all good. Not a sign of stress, air gasping or even loss of appetite for all of them except for the pbass which i almost loss due to him puncturing his bag thus resulting to no water the entire trip.. and even him, he made it. I guess i was lucky. Im so thankful.
he looks ok and is still swimming his new 8' span.
but still havent seen him eat :irked:

a few hours ago i dropped a crawdad in his tank.
he seen it and went strait at it
i was like :eek::WHOA::eek:
he went like 3" from it,stopped, looked, then swam away :(
i was like dang i thought he was going to eat.lol

tomorrow is a feed day and im going to see if he eats.fingers crossed.
will let ya know if/when he eats. :irked:

and ya it sounds like you were lucky lol

Sounds like the male breeding cycle behavior. They have an annual process and I have heard fasting is the start and it peaks by spring...I could be way way off though.....?

for some reason tho he is just eating a little still.
doesnt seem to want the shrimp anymore
ate a few frogs days ago "vids in vid section".lol
and eats a few small minnows once in a while.
:irked:
what sux is i think the cold snap killed most/all of the frogs so i cant feed them again anytime soon. :irked:

Yr aro sounds kinda like mine during the december period.my aro's better now n this is wat i did.first i changed to feeding it frozen bloodworm as i used to feed it mealworm.let me ask u did yr water became very cloudy after it ate frogs or shrimps?n did u use medication over this period?because when i feed my aro mealworms, few hours later the water would get very cloudy.n if u have been using medication,u might try to stop medication n jus do regular water changes.as aro might get sick if its having too much medication.Hope this would help u;)
