update

looked back, almost to the day its been a month since i seen him eat. :(

just drained about 50% of the current tank and re filled it with water from the 240.
then put fresh water in the 240.
going to let him aclimate today and hopefully on x mas night he will be moved.

he freaked out during w/c and made me think, this will be fun when im moving him. :grinno:

there just so cute at 4" but not so cute at 24"

also added a lil pbass to the 240 lol

Reading this thread made moving an aro sound harder than rocket science.

How many of you guys actually acclimatise fish over 12"?

I'll be honest...I very rarely do...

I hope this tank move fixes your problem midnight...I know how frustrating it can be when things like this can happen.

Your just a wealth of information aren't you?

Takes very little effort to acclimate a large silver aro. Ya I'm sure many fish survive tank transfers without any type of acclimation, but what about the ones that don't? Personally I don't understand why anyone would take that chance.

i know i felt better to aclimate.
and it was nice to do it in his tank without moving him.

I will just assume that since we have the same name, you are just as much as a smartass as I am.....

I don't alot of the time on larger fish.. lol Didn't on my tiger ray.. It's not smart to do it, and you have to own up to an expensive mistake if you're wrong but water temp was close enough and I didn't worry about ph/etc.

Also want to say 85 degrees isn't that bad. My tanks are normally that temp all the time.

But I agree glad you moved it and hope it eats soon. :( 240g looks good too!

gl midnight! how is he now?
personally i dont think its still needed to acclimate bigger fish.
but, nothing bad on being safe.

when we bought a house i didnt have the luxury to wait for my new 220 to cycle. I just filled it up with new water, setuped the heaters, let the sump and cannister run (both new) and just added 2 strong powerheads. It was risky and i was nervous but i had no choice. I just prayed that theyll be ok. Thanks to God my silver aro (24inch), pbass (16inch) along with my 3 7inchs tinfoil barbs and a gibby were all good. Not a sign of stress, air gasping or even loss of appetite for all of them except for the pbass which i almost loss due to him puncturing his bag thus resulting to no water the entire trip.. and even him, he made it. I guess i was lucky. Im so thankful.
