Need Help: Thousand Island Stingray Not Active and Not Eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont care what the nitrate reading is.....atm it doesnt matter as much as the fact he is stating his ammonia is at 1 which is toxic way more toxic then any amount of nitrate, which would be off the charts probably if he had adequate filtration. As others have said tank is to small and filtration is in all actuality pathetic for the current stock. Will the added canister filter help? Better then nothing but no in reality it's not that big of a bump up. You need a tank twice that size and use that tank as your sump fill it full of biomedia and do weekly religious waterchanges of 50-80% and then see where you are at. Currently you are just torturing those animals. Sorry to be blunt but its truth.

who said ammonia is 1???
I am not sure if it’s difficult to understand what ammonia <0.02 means. It means ammonia is less than 0.02ppm and by simple mathematics knowledge you will know that 0.02 is way less than 1

I have extremely important piece of information that I just noticed few minutes back. But after all the bashing I got for asking for help, I am very apprehensive to post this information as I am worried you guys will start the bashing again.

I will give it a try and post this info and hope you guys stop the bashing give me some suggestions sensitively.

Here is a pic of one of the eye of the stingray. I am certain now that this is the reason he has been inactive and not eating. Let me know your thoughts. Is it possible he hit something while swimming?

It actually looks like an ammoniaburn on the eye and its got an dent in between the eyes wich points out that this has been going on for some time.
The thing you need to do now is get an tank twice the size up and running asap.

Thank you for the information.

Would you say that if the ammonia is controlled it's possible for the eye to heal?

This ray need more the ammonia in controll right now. Its need alot of care and an stressfree environment and much larger tank with an large sump. What you can do now until you get a new tank is 30%wc everyday. Salt the water 3dl of salt per 100L in your case 12dl salt mixed with water before putting it in. First half the amount a couple hours later then other half. Feed small amounts of food many times a day. Feed only its favorite food for some time. And if you can dim down your tank thats great. You will have to monitor your parameters and your ray closely.

What system do you use to measure water or lets say spices in larger amounts? Then i can figure it out in you system.

And one more thing.
If this ray is gonna make it you will need to step up your tankgame asap. You will need to invest in an much larger tank.

This is an ray tank im working on. Its 3200L
