Need Help! will my Texas cichlid choke to death?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeh I would just leave him be too. I have tried so many times to give my texas tank mates but it never works out long term and would have been a lot less stuffing around if I just gave him his own tank to himself in the first place.

Yeah I think I learned my lesson no new tank mates.

Here is the pic the texas I am guessing is about 5" just for reference

Observe if the Texas is able to breath. If so, the best approach is to leave him alone Pulling a stuck fish by force is dangerous and can tear his mouth apart and kill him. He will be able to swallow it or spit it out eventually as the dead fish will decay in his mouth. Once I had a Green Terror got stuck with a small peacock for 3 days. Eventually, the dead peacock disintegrated and disappeared. But if you observed the Texas show stress of breathing, you have to perform an emergency operation by cutting up the preyed fish into pieces with a scissors to get it out safely (Yak!!).

I wont pull it out. I was just thinking of cutting out the visible part of the fish. I will give it a little more time. The fish is breathing but he is breathing heavy. I would say he has rapid gill movement.

Great news!!! The half of the fish that was sticking out has fallen off. Looks like he chewed his way through. His mouth is still open a bit. He is acting almost like his old self. He even went after some pellets

I am guessing yours will do what mine did. Should be fine. I know it's a little worrisome.
