You will be sorry if you get two cons. You could be looking at a huge loss of your other fish. I would only get one if any at all. Also another option would be to try an african tank. You can put up to 12 africans in there that grow around 4-5". They are also very mean depending on what kidn they are.

i dont think he would want africans, but my petshop is having a sale on them now. but i know he doesnt want to spend alot of money on fish. and since the firemouths and the severums and stuff are only about 3 bucks a fish i though it would be cool. i guess we wont get a convict but he wants the same fish he used to have and he used to love his firemouth so i want one of those for sure. can i put clown loaches in a 55 and how many can i put in there? do you think that giant danios would be ok as dithers? or maybe someone can reccommend something else? i know someone reccommended black skirt tetras. the good thing is the tank is already cycled. i think that we are going to make a bunch of slate caves before adding cichlids. does any have any good websites for making caves for smaller cichlids?

I would put a couple of Jack Dempseys in there, I have always wanted some.:woot:

A few clown loaches will bee good in there for a few years at least. They will eventually outgrow it but it will take a long time.

i would rather not put anything in there that would ever outgrow the tank. if i eventually get a bigger tank then it will just be used as a big community tank but that wont be for a while. i got it set up today too and it came with a huge gold fish and a little fish about 3 inches long thats like silver with a black stripe and reddish tail? any clue wat that is? but i put them in my 20 gallon. but i felt sorry for them because the tank was really nasty the filter cartridges were brown and it was like they were soaked in mud. i just soaked all the decor and the filters in bleach and water and it came off but im not putting those decorations in there becuz they are fallin apart and are like corals? lol im gonna make some caves to at least keep the territories seperated a little bit. but i got it clean took me about 5 hours with me and a friend but that also involved moving a 20 gallon tank (had to drain it and put in new gravel and a background) btw could i put around 3 rubber lip ( i think called rubber nose plecos) in there?

can i get a school of 6 giant danios and 6 bala sharks both in the 55 gallon as dithers? i seen both at the store and i really liked them both but to have a school of either in a 20 gallon would be hard. the cichlids im getting wouldnt even be bigger than the danios or sharks when i get them i want to get them at baby size, i actually want every fish in there to be very small when i first get them.

can you house a parrot cichlid with firemouths and the other cichlids i wanted? drs foster and smiths website said you could on one of their fish profiles

BUMP ????

Don,t do Bala Sharks they get Huge...I was actually just reading up and found out people where using rainbow cichlids as dithers...
Very interesting.
The parrot could live with firemouths just watch out for breeding with firemouths, they g=breed easily and the parrot will feel it.
Get a parrot (non-dyed of course) a dempsey and a blue acra that would be cool w/ a school of giant danios
