how much do rainbow cichlids usually cost and how big do they get? i think i will just do a school of giant danios but i wanted two schools of dithers anyone else recommend other dither fish that i can use.

thanks i just liked them because they looked like channel cats and channel cats are way too big.
does anyone know if i could put a jack dempsey with a firemouth, rainbow cichlid, severum (green), and a festivum?
i would NOT put a pair of EBJD's in a 55 with those fish......i have a single male in a 46 with a couple gouramis and two african knives cuz that's all he tolerates.........it depends on the fish......people underate EBJD's cuz mine is mean.......not as mean as my butti or jag but still MEAN..........
With your 55gallon i would do a severum, firemouth, and a convict with some clown loaches for bottom feeders............
i didnt want the electric blue dempseys, i dont really like them no offense. but can i add a jack dempsey in with a firemouth, severum, festivum, rainbow cichlid and maybe a convict?
depsey will kill everything once the territories are established , you can doit but he has to be small, rainbows arent to aggresive, fetivums are skittish , all I can say is "Lets get ready to rumble" in there. Dither fish help alot, i used giant danios cheap fast and they keep their attention.
right now i have alot of bigger cichlids, that would never be able to live peacefully in a 55 for life. but im getting a bigger tank by next year which will be in time for the fish to growout a bit. they are all 3" or less. the firemouth is dominant with the convict or texas being close second. i love watching them. they all have their own little pot and chase each other and the danios away from them. i still want some pictus catfish to get more movement. and some others like a pair of kissing gouramis and about 10 more danios.
I garantee you that is going to get nasty before a year. probably some deaths. IMO, return the texas. He will want an entire 55 to himself and wont tolerate any pesky tankmates once he puts some size on, and he grows fast.
