my cuban cichlids have been acting funny for about a week. they stoped eating pellets but would still eat the bloodworms. now they wont even eat those. they taste everything and spit it back out. i dropped some baby guppies in there today and nothing. any ideas?? their droppings are thin and clear.

looks like an internal parasite to me

thats what i was thinking. what kind of steps should i take to get rid of it? i tried feeding some flakes this morning but they keep spiting them back out. they look hungry and will take the food but only spit it out.

I used to feed live foods to my Discus.....too many parrasites and heavy metals.....I fed the beef heart with many additives and those issues went away.....I know alot of people swear by live foods....but some places don't take the extra care needed to keep the live food clean and disease free....

ive never fed them live foods. just cichlid bio gold pellets, cichlid flakes, freeze dried shrimp, and frozen bloodworms.

try metronidazole. use ultra cure PX, "Gel Tek" its a gel you give during feeding. its cheap and it works. aslo prevents secondary infections. also has fish pheromones to enhance eating.

I had the same problem with mine and it ended up being bloat, even though they werent bloated to the eye.

What do you have them in a tank with? If just themselves, is one more dominant than the other?

Is anyone harrassing them?

Do you have the temp up around at least 82? These guys NEED warm warm temps while they are younger, 82-86 is where I would keep them...so if they arent by themselves, they will need to be probably, unless you have others with them that can handle the temps.

Also, stress will kill these guys when they are little with ease and MANY people on here have lost them to it. Heres a great thread on the problems, dietary needs and stress complications related to Haitensis.
