JUST did a water change (second in three days)

Now, I know what his problem is, he has some gravel stuck in his gullet. Now how can I get it out? Do I dare use the clove oil and some tweezers? He's starting to struggle.

*sigh* Any ideas? thanks.

:nilly:

So you can see the gravel?

If so, clove oil and tweezers sounds like the best idea. Especially if you think it's not something that will work itself out. Just be extra careful to not overdose the clove oil. Use just enough to get him calm.

Given the choice between doing nothing and the fish dying for sure or doing surgery and have a 50/50 shot at success, I'd do the surgery. And that is if (a big if) you think the fish will die from you doing nothing. And if (another big one) you think you're capable of operating.

Good luck, I hope it goes well for you whatever you decide. If you operate, get someone to take pics.

***EDITED TO ADD***
I'm sure you know, but be careful with the clove oil. An overdose will surely kill the fish.

thanks. I'm gonna call one of the vets in town to see if they do fish. In their ads it says "Exotics" so I wonder HOW exotic is exotic. If they don't. I"m gonna do the clove oil tweezer deal. I can see the gravel clearly.

I think it's sort of like if you get a popcorn kernel stuck under your tongue or something and have a hard time getting it out...something like that. Unfortunately fish dont have saliva...

Omg, I could not imagine having to go through something like this good luck with everything!

you think taking it to the vet is to much, how special is this fish to you

wow a pretty heartless comment seeing as the guy obviously loves his pets enough to get the vet out to it.

good on you mate and good luck with the surgery. keep us posted.
i wouldnt trust any of our vets with my fish. in vet school they do a whole 2 weeks on fish (so i was told anyway), no freshwater then saltwater just "fish" in general.
