wow a pretty heartless comment seeing as the guy obviously loves his pets enough to get the vet out to it.

good on you mate and good luck with the surgery. keep us posted.
i wouldnt trust any of our vets with my fish. in vet school they do a whole 2 weeks on fish (so i was told anyway), no freshwater then saltwater just "fish" in general.

See, THIS is why I'm gonna become an aquatic vet with a minor in Marine Biology.

We need more people who can help us with our fish. Some people think "Dogs, Cats and other air breathing vertebrates are only pets, fish are decorations" Heh. I have two dwarf puffers, a tank full of tetras, and my Sev *of course all in different tanks!* and I'm very attached. I was totally heartbroken when my GSP passed away (Husband's fault, he misplaced a decimel when calculating the SG... 0_0 )

I really like that Sev, we inherited him from one of the husband's co-workers who moved across country. We do have to move him into a bigger tank. Alas, finances can't afford an 80 right now :( The best we can do is put him in the 32 and move the tetras to the 20. I think that's what we'll do after the gravel removal..

oh yeah, my 5 year old daughter is in love with this fish too. She'll be absolutely devastated if it passes away.

Fish in this house rank on par with cats and dogs...since we can't have either due to allergy concerns.

I had this happen with my G. altifrons. He had sand or some other kind of object caught in his gills, was sick lethargic for about 36 hours before he was suddenly fine again.

Best of luck mate, keep us posted.

hmm Well I'll keep an eye on him then. the "Exotic vet" is closed today Might do another water change tonight to keep the pollution down to an absolute minimum.

I know people don't really care about fish because I think they just picture gold fish ( sorry goldfish!) floating around in bowls. I think if they could see how interesting keeping larger tropical fish with alot of personality is they wouldn't make these ignorant comments.

-good luck I hope the sev recovers. hopefully this just becomes more training to becoming an aquatic vet ;)

How is the Severum doing?

I don't care for ppl who act like fish are just fish and decor. I also get irritated when ppl come over and say things like...oooh that fish would be good on the grill. I have a lot of pets, and my fish are included in the family pet category.

I hope your Severum will recover, please keep us posted on what happens.

I agree , the only fish I find that looks truly delicious is a pacu

I just put a bit of food in with him. He's still eating so that's good. He's perked up a little I still see the gravel in there though. Mabe he'll be able to spit it out as he eats today. Hopefully.

Well he's looking better now. I don't see the gravel, he's breathing normally. Hope he spit it out while he was eating and not swallowed it.

can it become impacted if he swallowed it?
