ok so i put the tee in the pipe where the red x is and now the sump fills up but it fills to full.. the water level is about an inch below the top of the stock tank. how can i lower the level in the sump?
Buy the "stock" tank are you referring to the Rubbermaid sump? If so, it sounds like your pump is pumping more water than the pipe returning water to the tank can handle using gravity. If this is correct, a simple fix would be to add a bulkhead fitting where you want to water level to be at and add plumping so the bulkhead dumps back into the pond.
Yep, sounds like it's gonna take more than one drain to keep up, or larger pipe. That drain pipe looks pretty big already though. How much flow is going up to the sump?
Or possibly shorten the pipes marked, like if the water level needs to drop 6 inches, cut 6 inches out of the pipes. NOT sure this would work though. I think it will. I'd try it, if it were mine.
If you put a stand pipe inside the sump to the desired water level, you'd be able to clear all that visible plumbing on the outside of the sump away...
so
when the water reaches the level you want,
it will run down the standpipe (that is inside out of view)
out of the bulkhead into the "T"
splitting the flow to the right and left...

that is what i was thinking. i just wasnt sure if it would work but with more then just me thinking it i might just try it first. the pump is a pondmaster pump rated at 80 gpm. the pluming on the return right now is all 2" pvc. guess im not really sure what the flow rate on the 2" is but i thought it would handle it.
Hey, the standpipe sounds good, much better than what I came up with. According to the sticky
2.0 = 40.0 = 2400. Pump is rated about twice what the drain is, second drain might be the best option.
