Peeling skin under the eyes doesn't sound like hith to me.

Don't treat until you know what is wrong or you may create more problems. Are the sores growing? Have you sprayed any chemicals in the house lately? Burned scented candles? Could kids have put something into the tank? What you describe sounds a lot like poisoning, but it's hard to know.

You said you checked your water and it was fine. Fine is not a number. Ammonia needs to be zero, nitrite needs to be zero, and nitrates should be below ten for Oscars. Anything else you can tell us? Could other fish be biting him or striking his operculum?

if it looks like something is eating it's skin its most likely a parasite. isolate the fish is possible. make sure your quarantine tank has excellent airration. try melafix and pimafix for 7 days. reassess then. also, turn ur temp SLOWLY up to around 80-82 and add aquarium salt.

That's jumping the gun a bit. I really could be HITH or a number of things, including a parasite.

Keep his water clean and observe closely for other signs of stress. And check that water again, giving us numbers to work with.

If you've got time to dump medicine in there you've got time to do a lot bigger water changes than 20%. Get to changing water. A lot of water. You say your water is "fine", what does "fine" translate to? How big is the tank? I'm 99% sure that 20% water changes on an Oscar tank aren't going to be enough once a week. I wouldn't dump worthless medicine in there-I'd change the water. People don't want to believe it's that easy & it is. If it's HITH all it needs is big water changes, if it's scrapes it needs big water changes. For God's sake don't start medicating based on people's guesses on a message board when we haven't even seen a picture.
