hello everyone im in need of some cerious help..i hope someone can understand me. I have an 11 inch black piranha last week i noticed a white blotch on his dorsal fin that grew bigger and bigger.. ive been trying to reasearch this before i treat it for something he doesnt have but cant find an exact picture of what it might be.. ive been told its ich but ich looks like salt or something was sprinkled on it and its not that.. then i was told it could be a fungus infection which it might sound like. all the pictures ive found of a fungus infection looks like actual fungus growing on its body and its not growing on his skin or anything it looks like its under his scales.. i looked this morning and its starting to show up all over his body.. im freaking out i really need some help and i know this thread is pointless without pictures. i visited my LFS and they told me to raise the temp in the tank add aquarium salt and he gave me a medication called Melifix. i will post pictures later on tonight when i get home from work any suggestions will be greatly appreciated help me save big black.. i will probably die along with him if he decides to go :(

iono im not a expert but it sounds like a parasitic infection...

I don't really know, but if it's really getting big, it sounds like fungus. Melafix should be a huge help. Best medication for everything out there.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea to do what you're doing. A picture will tell us a thousand words though, if you can get one.

I don't like to advise treatment unless we are sure of the diagnosis. Please get a photo of the affected area. It should be mandatory in the first place to help us pin down the exact issue.

Also, water parameters are also helpful (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate). If these are out of whack, your fish will be much more susceptible to nasty infections, diseases, etc.
