Need ideas for stocking coffee-table-arium...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Amphibians would be best. Lizards get stressed out easily if they can't see from the side, which is why I don't like those trough-style setups that American breeders use for monitors, tegus and such.

I don't want to mess with amphibs because I don't think it'll be very easy to keep up on the humidity with it. The heat in my house zaps all that extra water away and I have a hard enough time keeping it up in my other cages.
Here it is so far. I still have to seal the seams and put in the tile on the inside. As well as some extra touches on the outside.

Well I wouldn't recommend any lizards because it looks like it has absolutely no ventilation. Maybe you could do a nice trio of leo geckos though. That would be cool. That table actually looks like it would be really easy to keep the humidity up cuz it is so sealed up. I would maybe do tree frogs. I think that would be pretty sweet. Or a snake of some sort with lots of hides. Go small though because of the ventilation.

There are 2 large vents on either side of it (side NOT facing you) that you cannot see in the picture that are adjustable.
They are those wall grate type vents and there is a pretty decent amount of airflow through it (the vents are WAY bigger than the ones you see on those gtrey stackable plastic terrariums, no idea who makes those)
So it does NOT have "absolutely no ventilation" if you read my description of it you would have realised that.

any kind of small desert dwelling lizard that dosen't get to large would be ok collards, emerals swifts, chuckwalla ,ect as long as you could get the proper heat gradient. Leos, fat tails, any kind of lizard like that would be ok ., house geckos, anoles, tokay. of course all will need proper humidity but could be done if u take the time to set up the enclosure properly.;) Their are a ton out their .What u need to do is find a lizard you like then set up the enclosure to suit that lizard.

Horny toads would be cool. Also called Horned Devils.

The only thing I'm worried about is wether or not the lizard would need over-head basking light/element. Because of the glass and stained wood on the top of it I'm worried about what could happen if it were too hot. 16" isn't a lot of space to allow a heat element to hang down without coming in contact with anything. I could probably do something that's really low-wattage, but then there's still the problem of how I would hang it. Also, the tile I'm using is the vinyl kind and I would be afraid that it'd melt from something like that, hence why I was only going to go with under-tank heating as the main heat source.

If your going to go with no overhead heating, Leo's would do the trick. I've used one with mine but never saw her bask, she just didn't use it. So I adjusted the heat mat to suit and took away the heat bulb and shes just as happy...
