The thing is most people don't keep lizards in open-top setups. The North American breeders that do use an open-top... if you seen them they are always stressed out, high-strung and got a weird unnatural head-tilt to them.

I would imagine that a breeding operation would have much more stressed out animals in general anyway though. I suppose it would also depend on the type of lizard too. Ones that have big buggy eyes (like geckos) are a bit more equiped for viewing what's above them and probably wouldn't be as stress out, than say a bearded dragon which has that special eye scale for detecting shadows above them and has to turn thier head to actually see what's above them.

I edited my post for suggestions. There are a few diurnal snakes out there.

I will try to find some for you... In addition to Gopher snakes, garter snakes and Hognosed snakes, Indigos and Cribo snakes are also diurnal, and so are Coachwhips and racers. Trying to think of some more....

Horny toads would be cool. Also called Horned Devils.

Horned toads are not easy to keep as they have a specialized diet and worse (in this case) require basking lights.
Since basking (UV) lights are not being used lizards that are mainly nocturnal are best.
Tokay geckoes, Golden Geckoes, Leopard geckoes, and Marbled geckoes all fit the bill.

common house geckoes, leaf geckoes ( if you can mount a few small flourescent lights under the edges for live plants), ect are your best bet they will do well with live plants as long as the plants you are using are non toxic. The lights if u can mount under the lip that holds the glass can provide uv and full spectrum for the plants to grow. under heating if used properly can provide enough heat and a addition of a water bowl combined with misting can provide proper humidity.

I already have room for 2 36" bulbs to mount in there along the longer sides. With the wood frame around it and tile it won't quite be enough room to fit a 48" in there. That was what I was planning on doing with the lighting from the beginning.
