Need ideas for what to do with my 55 gal long

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Don't JDs and GTs get to be about the same size? The GTs I've owned have been just as aggressive as any JD I've had so aggression could still be an issue.

maybe im wrong but it seems to me its easier to grow a larger jack... ive seen 11"-12" JD's and never seen a 12" GT

... and as for agression yes they are both about the same when it comes to cichlid agro but they are worried about their bottom feeders not other cichlids
ive had GT that were agressive but never to bottom feeders or anything similar and owned a 10" Jd that destroyed and ate a 6"+ shark leaving nothing but a red fin...these are just my experiences.

I wouldnt mix the GT with any others in the 55g im saying keep just one GT or possibly a pair.

What about EBJD? Stay a bit smaller, more mellow, and really pretty fish.

Another good idea!

Before you make up your mind check out profile of the brasiliensis ...really pretty and UNCOMMON FISH its also low to moderate agg.. making it possible to have another cichlid ,without having to deal with injuries

Braselensis can topper around 12" that's a little big for a 55. I had a 7" in my 72 n he looked huge n cramped

I would say JD. I have always had JDs. They definately have a reputation but since your catfish is already 5 inches, if you get a young JD (around 2 inches) and raised it with the catfish, there is a chance it might get along with it. Jds get super pretty (especially males), they will eat live fish, and theyre tropical, and they have awesome personalities. Mine follows me around haha They're hit or miss though. Some are mild and passive and even kept in community tanks while some will be savage killers and own an entire 85 gallon tank.

Just saying if I had a 55 I could do whatever with I'd get a high quality EBJD and maybe a few dither fish for him to chase. Maybe 5 Columbian Tetras, and that's it. My 72 gallon has 2 grow out Severums, a upside down cat,5 tiger barbs, and 3 small clown loaches.
