Need opinions on this Ruby Red

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As said he is a very nice looking fish. But I can't even trust the red unless I saw it in person. (It is just too easy to take a photo emphasizing the red.) And honestly most of the strains I have seen look like that now if you stick them in with a few females. (Well the alpha male.)

I don't know what you are attempting to breed, but at least in GA german reds have no market anymore. (Even really nice breeder colonies are just given away now.)

Do you want to have the fish fully red including the face? Just trying to figure out what you are shooting for.

How log does it take them to color up like this? I have one and he is just a dark brownish orange color. He is only about 2" though..don't know if that matters.

You should start seeing him color up soon. Do you have females with him? If not, they would help speed up the process.

There is a guy on here that has ordered that particular line from that same guy and they look just as good as in the pic.

Sounds like you have your mind made up already. The claimed "red" strain are just a more concentrated line breed with a high price tag. Light makes a lot of fish appear to be orange. I would say that mine is about as red as they get.

Hey its only money, like I always say the amount of money spent on the actual fish is dwarfed by the price of equiptment, food, water, electric, time etc..

Ruby reds in the past have always been more orangy. Some of the strains appearing in the past year are truly red,and amazing. If the fish is as red as the picture, youll make your money back.

I don't necessarily think that is a true statement. The market is slowly dropping out on these fish because they are getting very common.

Yes, he has 1 female. He does have some color, it is just a darker orange/brown color.

I would say that you should expect him to start coloring up anytime.

I don't think he did.
