I originally posted this in the disease section but no luck so

So my Mbu is about 20 inches and has been healthy. She eats once or twice per day and diet consists of Clams mussels shrimp etc.

Last 2 months she has gotten sick periodically. Basically stops eating, looks like only one fin works, hunches up and floats a lot. I have successfully hospitalized her every time and treated with Furan 2. Worked twice after a few days she seems to poop slime balls and gets better. I put her back in the main tank and she is fine for a few weeks and then again..same thing. I decided to treat the main tank with Nitrofurizone (as the rays in the main tank can't handle the other ingredients in the Furan 2) and I am convinced the tank must have something wrong with it. Long story short it is not working. She is not affected by the treatment. I have taken some pics and I am hoping someone can pint point this as I can't continue to treat her every other week as she just gets sick again.

Check the pictures and let me know. There has been no changes to tank mates so it is not stress and each time there are these little slime things hanging out of her anus, which could be the problem of maybe not. T The tank is on an auto water changer daily so water parameters don't change and are not View attachment 765241View attachment 765242

Tank specs please? Tank mates? Any changes at all to the system?

You never mentioned your water parameters?

And please dont say they are fine... Numbers mean a lot more when people are trying to help you...

Ok well a fish that has lived and flourished in water that has not changed in years and changed 33 percent a day probably doesn't have a parameters issue is all I am saying. It is 50 percent RO as the rays are temperamental so if I gave you the parameters. But fair enough I should not expect an answer...I will ask Petland and bring them a water sample

You need to chill... No one knows your setup an how you are running and maintaining your tank which is why i asked...

Just coz you have rays doesnt mean anything, since some people honestly dont know how to care for them properly or maybe only do a small once a week water change...

Anyway... Hopefully you'll find your solution else where since you seem to like shooting people here down real quick....

Lol. Yep I guess I am a bit touchy on this one it just seems like every time I ask a question about puffers I am greeted by the same experts with the same questions (which I usually do answer) and never any answers. Petland here I Come!

I hope it isn't the same Petland that sold the milled Great Dane puppy that eventually made it's defective way through our rescue and into my house. I wouldn't trust the minimum wage earning, high school drop outs at that store with a house plant, never mind my puffer, but that's just me. Maybe you have a fantastic store.
I am farrrrr from a puffer expert, but I would wonder about the parameters for 2 reasons. 1, you say the parameters have never changed. Right. And you have a fish that can't stay healthy. Maybe the never changing parameters are a problem.
Secondly, if you are trying to medicate in the tank with other healthy fish, but not managing to beat back what is probably a gnarly case of IP's, which are going to kill your puffer, you're never going to accomplish your goal. The geniuses at Pet Land can test your water all day long, but you should be testing it yourself. My guess is that your rays have IP's, too, and you're constantly reinfecting when you take the puffer out of the hospital and put her back in with them.

Thanks for the stab at it. I genuinely appreciate it as at least its a thought. Btw my fish don't do Petland. I was being sarcastic. ;)

I am curious that you keep all these high-end, gigantic fish but do not have your own test kits & refuse to answer any of the Qs e ask, when trying to hep you? Do you think we're all magicians?
