Need puffer experts to help my mbu

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am curious that you keep all these high-end, gigantic fish but do not have your own test kits & refuse to answer any of the Qs e ask, when trying to hep you? Do you think we're all magicians?

Practice it PP...I don't know whats wrong with your puffer.

What is the temp in your tank? Could it be such a thing that just increasing your temp a little might change? I really think everyone has the IP's, and that's why they aren't going away. If your puffer has a weakened immune system from the constant beating of the IP's, yet the rays are more tolerant, the puffer would constantly show symptoms while the other fish appeared healthy. It wouldn't make sense that only the puffer would have them. IP's affect all critters differently.

hmmm. Interestingly enough when this first started (first noticed) I was away for week, the heater fried and so the water was sitting about in the high 60s. The puffer first got sick about a week after. I wonder if you are right and this is an immune thing from the initial shock.

A dip like that most certainly would've lowered his immune system. I'm betting what happened was that the IP's were always there, but it took an immune hit to make him unable to deal with them. You're treating, then reinfecting. Because he never gets a chance to bounce back, he's just in a constant state of illness. The rays have never been fully treated, so there is the reinfection. Just an educated guess.
Again, I'm no expert. I'm in the medical field, but not fish medicine. It just makes sense. That would be the case with other animals, humans included, who were subjected to parasites, so it stands to reason that it would be the case with the fish.

Honestly that makes sense. Hopefully then treating the whole tank (which I am ) and then keeping the temp high the reinfection will eventually stop? Hope so and thanks for the information.

How did I miss this thread? Anyway, I'm honestly thinking that Ornata Mama hit the nail on the head. Sounds like an internal parasite that just manages to keep coming back through treatments. Do what you planned by treating the entire tank, and then retreat again just to be sure. They can be hard things to get rid of. Best of luck with your Mbu

Once you treat the whole tank, you should deal with the IP's fully, but you might have to treat twice. Keep an eye on things to see. Keeping a good temp should prevent further problems, provided the rest of your water parameters are right.
Good luck! :)

These are some of the most rude replies I have ever read from the OP, the fact that you guys are even trying to help is mind blowing. Anyone who openly refuses to offer up params and is completely combative with the questions being asked when trying to fight a fish illness is asking for trouble imo.

Yeah, some of the replies were rude, but this isn't about him. It's about his fish. I care about fish. It isn't a big deal. I don't have to compromise my integrity just because someone else did. If he wants to be rude, he can be rude. I just choose to be nice.
