did you cycle if b4 you put that cute lil jd in there?just do about 20% w/c for 2 weeks but conditon the water b4 you put it in there.when you do a huge w/c do not clean the filter.and if you used ammo lock with a filter the filter might have ruined the chemicals and got em stuck in the filter.clean the tank and filter at whole diff times.

The tank was cycled back in April- May before I got the JD, I used filter media from another tank I had. Do you mean do a 20% water change every 2 weeks until the Ammonia and Nitrite drop back to 0? Im a little confused by what you mean..

Thanks again for the fast reply.

test your water change supply first see if the problem is at the source and not the tank itself. Have you noticed if it affecting the fish in a negative way it may be a false reading. What other chemicals or additives do you put in the water?

I'm a rookie and just starting a tank and just reading up on potential problems. What water test kits seem to work the best for people? Also know any good digital testers?

The water I was doing water changes with had .25ppm Ammonia. Because of the Ammonia in the water, I got a RO unit and it takes the Ammonia out. I will do a water change in a few days. I use Prime Conditioner and API Test kits.

I will post up my water tests later today.

I just tested the water again, and it didnt change.

Still at....

Ammonia- 4.0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- 5-10

How long do you think it will take for the water to return to safe? My plan is to do a 20% water change weekly, until it recycles. Is there anything else I should be doing?
