Need some advice please

I would stop using the ammo-lock, It is useful for transport but I do not like it in working tanks, it screws up test readings and if left can breakdown after time , causing a spike.
Make sure that there are no dead spots in your substrate, fine sand ofter gets dead pockets if it is left undisturbed.
If you can get it add a tbsp. of sludge from a friends working filters to each of yours, this will boost the BB colony and speed things along.
confirm your readings with a different test kit.
That is all that comes to mind right now.

First, how is you fish acting? Normal? Quit messing with it.

If he's discolored and acting strange you may have a small problem.

Try NOT to mix different manufacturers products. They sometimes don't play well with others.

Either ask a friend or LFS for some gravel from his/their healthy tank, just scoop some out, dirt and everything (sludge). Throw it into your tank. Spread it out and leave the tank alone for a couple of days. This is normally faster than bio-spira.

If you're using liquid test supplies shake them before using them. BTW, did you pick out the test kit or did the store recommend it? If they recommended it, take it back and ask how to use it. Have them show you. OR ask if they'll let you trade up to buy better test kit.

Sludge is just the brown detritus in an active filter, it is partially broken down organic material and is rich in the benificial bacteria that make a filter work. It is like Bio-spira but more active and best of all it is free.
