Need some help figuring out filtration. Nothing crazy though.

? I like Big Sumps ?

I run one brackish 55g community with a 42g sump and it's working well.

You can have a 55 with HOBs or cannisters: that nets you 50- 52g of water bare.

I get 80 gals easily with a big sump.

The extra water is a much bigger deal than having extra filtration.

More water + cheapo filter > less water + $$$ FX6

:) I just saw my 5th generation of fry in this system. :)

Lots of good suggestions. If it were me i probably just add a large sponge filter for now. Down the road you can look into aquaclear filters. I would get one of the medium sized.

Im a big fan of sumps but i dont think id go through the trouble of setting one up on a 55 gal especially if the overflow is HOB.

Thats said most importantly you should pick up an api master test kit. Test your water before water changes. That is the only way to know for sure if your filtration is sufficient. No one on here can say for sure especially when we arent the ones feeding the fish. If you get an ammonia reading then the filtration isnt up to snuff.

Just a thought... how do the polys get along ? Do you have hides now ? If not and you add the sponge the more dominant sen maybe get a little aggressive claiming the sppnge as its hide. This isnt always the case btw. Just a thought

Surprisingly enough my sens get along pretty well they some times they hide in the cave and swim pass each other but most of the time one is in a cave on one side of the tank and another is in a cave on the opposite side of the tank. I do plan to get more hiding spots.

Actually one of the cats pulled one of the tubes out of a different air pump and it did do that so there was a growing wet spot for a day before I figured it out. It never crossed my mind to put them higher than the tank so thank you for bringing it to my attention comrade, I appreciate it.
