Need some help with retic stingray

Wish this had an edit feature for posts. lol

with my 120 gallon tank, using quick calculations, I come up with that these amounts will give me enough to treat?

100 gm Metronidazole

10 grams Praziquantel

I'd keep it in there through treatment and reduce it over time. If you ever have issues with nitrite the salt will keep your fish and ray from getting nitrite poisoning. Salt is best if used as a therapy although I keep some salt in the tank at all times but only about 1/3 dose. Salt does not evaporate so you only replace the amount you take out through water changes. I'll check the forum later in the day and see if you have any questions. Best of luck! You can also PM me anytime.

Meds ordered, salt dissolved in a gallon of water- being introduce to the tank via a drip tube. Time will tell!! Picking up another retic pup at the end of the week...figured on it being a replacement for the current one, but if all works out, I'll have two.

Thank you

aquarium salt (saltwater type) and water softener salt both will lower your tanks PH. this could cause you problems. table salt is PH neutral, so i would recommend using that first. otherwise, all good info that you've been told.

also, be careful of adding salt in with medications. some of them react violently when mixed. (ick meds + salt = systemic toxic death to your tank and inhabitants for example)

Thanks for the warning. I'm trying to upload a pic of the little guy now.

I read elsewhere the suggestion not to use the two drugs at the same time. Did I read it correctly above to do that or separately. I just want to solidify what I am to do so as not to cause more harm than good.

No worries with the other fish with the meds. Not sure how they do with salt. Salt goes well with the two meds I told you about. Your retic is really skinny. I don't think he has eaten based on his looks. If you could get the meds in right away he has a chance. Try finding that med called General Cure. Most lfs carry it and you could starty that until you get the other meds from Angels Plus.

I'm going to venture a guess the meds should be here by Wednesday. I'll start treating as soon as they show up. Both at the same time? Or one then the other?

A parasite will actually keep him from eating?

I agree, PraziPro and Blackworms...
I give every new ray I ever get a few treatments with PraziPro. This way I know they are parasite free..
Then I always start every ray on blackworms. Rays love blackworms and its easy for them to eat. Over time and age, they get into other foods like Tilapia and shrimp.

Thats prob going to be your best bet..
