Need some Pond ADVICE

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I recently purchased a home that has a pond located in the back yard. After one year of trying to maintain this pond I quickly found out how much of a pain it was. For one it don't have a skimmer and for two there isn't any filtration other than the pump that pumps water into a higher level and filters through a waterfall. The sellers simply had a Rubbermaid tote with the pump inside the tote. With lava rocks surrounding the pump inside the tote and holes drilled in the totes. Now my question is what would be the best and easiest way to add some filtration to this pond without having to redo the whole pond? Please help :) I can't deal with another year like last. It was a horrible pain.!

That nice looking pond you have. Love the lily.
You need the pond vacuum to clean the bottom of the pond first.
If you see the bottom drain still working good , use that to add the filter.
For my 2500 g pond. i use 6 55g drum for filter.

Guessing its about 15-20 ft long and about 6-8 foot wide. Its 4' deep in most spots and has a ledge around the entire pond.

Here is the best way I can describe it and my ideas of what I was going to do.

Ahh nice! I like the raised waterfall as well. I think I might have to do the same instead on digging the filter into the ground. I can just raise the ground and add some rocks and make the waterfall better. Do you have any issues with leaves? The area where I am located I have a ton of trees near the pond.

Also I see a large filter system behind the pond. Do you have any photos of that by chance?
