need the experts help...lfs owner salesman or being honest???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Have you considered getting a canister that you will use on your 180g and using on your 55g for the time being?

1) You'll have less equipment to buy when you set up your new tank.
2) You'll have a cycled filter to help jump start the new 180g when you set it up. (mini-cycle vs full cycle)
3) Anything you add now will help make sure you have fish still alive when you do set up the larger tank so a nice canister filter cannot hurt.
4) You will not likely be able to find a canister for $40-$50. You can post a WTB add here on MFK and on CL and see if someone bites but you more than likely will have to pony up some cash and get a decent filter. (see point 1 & 2 above as they could help minimize this as an issue for you)

but the tank im going to buy comes with two eheim canister's not sure which ones. he just told me they were eheim canisters.

He's obviously just tryin to make a sale. Which makes me wonder if he lied about your water results to try to scare you. I'd buy a test kit and test it myself if I were you.............

Nitrites were really high, did he give you a number? Are you sure he wasn't saying nitrates? Are you sure he is even telling the truth about the test results?

Best bet is to test the water yourself. There is also good advise here regarding buying filters that you can then move to the 180g. Personally i would recommend an AC110 as they are very versatile filters

wow i hate salesman because you want to be help not ripped of like what petsmart and petco do!! i like the local fish stores they are honest and they know the damn answer to your question.... some times im like:swear: hahahaha :lol2:

definitely invest in a good liquid test kit. If you do anything at all just make it cheap, you can add more filter floss, ceramic or whatever to your filter to increase the amount of biologicals it can hold. If that won't work then shell out a few dollars for a sponge filter. Chances are though if you haven't made any big changes in the last few weeks then it's probably just a high nitrate reading which means you need to do a water change.

Then you should make sure those work, and get them on your 55.....

^ this. ;) If your buddy's tank is in storage what the harm in adding them to the tank you have an cycling them/filtering your current tank? As far as the salesman, like others already said, you need to invest in a liquid test kit for yourself and determine what you need. You will need one when you set up your new tank anyway.
