Hi everybody. This is my first time posting here. I have some questions for everyone out there. I kept cichlids, mostly the smaller sa/ca's, when i was younger. probably from 14-18 i got up to a 55 gallon which housed a solitary JD and a bristlenose. I had to get rid of all my tanks due to a long distance move:cry::cry: and after a few years and settling into a permanent residence, I want fish again. anyway, i've kept lots of solitary or fairly peaceful cichlids before but i've never kept anything really big aggressive. my finances right would probably accept a 55 gallon fairly well, but a DIY 240 would take months to save up for. probably even most of a year. on the other hand if i get the 55 it would set back the 240 build at least a few months due to the startup costs and maintenance etc. so i'd like everyones input on what they would do. your opinions on what you would stock these tanks with would probably help me decide. i'm leaning towards the 55 right now just due to the fact that a refresher course on cichlids might be a good idea, and becuase waiting a year to have any fish at all (now that the bug seems to be trying to bite me again) would suck.:( a middle of the road option could a 100 gallon 72"x18x18. all you input is appreciated, thank you.:)

You can get a 55 gallon for 150 on craigslist, or less if you are lucky. Larger tanks are obviously more, but you can probably get a 125 for less than $500 fairly easily.
It might be harder in Canada though.

just check out craigs list man, id say get a nice pair of salvinis for the 55

i've found free 55s and 75s on craigslist...just keep looking. I would go for a used 75 for now (don't care for 55s even though i have 2).

i'd say you could get a 55 and some nice cichlids to grow out for the 240 if you wan't to do cichlids at least even if you wan't to do other fish theres tons of cichlids and usually theres a cichlid for all most every tank
