NEED TO VENT!!! 22" Arowana BASICALLY KILLED!!!

My thoughts are these; i see too many people "new" to the hobby as i am become super cocky after learning a lot about fish keeping. Just because you know more than most those selling fish doesn't make you the "All-Knowing" fish keeper. There's always somebody that knows more! Secondly, i absolutely LOVE aro's! But they are a tough species to keep, super finicky (specially when young) and can be tough to feed. Not to mention the LARGE tank they require! That's why i dont think those, chichla's, ID sharks and pacu should never be sold at a conglomerate store. And in order to purchase one of these you need to show proof of an adequate environment for a full sized specimen! Too many fish and hobbyists are lost because of the impulse purchase by an "experienced" aquatic keeper, and that saddens me! My final thought is this, know what you're getting into and dont ever buy a fish you cannot house once its fully grown! I hate the mentality that people have that fish die and its no big deal!!!! It's the exact same thing as a dog/cat/bird/rodent dying, and if it could have been prevented it SHOULD have! Just my opinions!

not to diss the younger members of our hobby cuz i kno there're quite a few MFK members whom are monster fish keepers @ a young age. but i wouldn't trust a 13/14 yrs old kid w/my 22" sliver if i were to give it out. or at least i would have to see the tank he's going into 1st.
btw, the guy who gave it out is a retard too, come on man, let a silver grow in a 90g til' it's 22"??? wth is that guy thinking??

Im 13 and I wouldnt trust myself with an Arowana! It would be tough to keep with only 3 mos of experience for me. That kid really needs to do more research. 78 gallon is almost HALF of the reccomended tank size. That's like keeping a Tiger Oscar in a 40 gallon.:swear: This whole story pisses me off, but just out of curiosty, why dont we freak on people who keep Betas in wine glasses...?
 
yeah i know what you mean about they shouldve asked him.
one of my lfs quises you like 20 questions before selling you ANYTHING and if it wont go then they refuse to sell them. which is very good i think. after building up a relationship with some of them over the years they tend to give u deals and stuff.

shouldnt more lfs be like that? well i dont live in america though so i hear things are alot worse over there with the whole walmart pacu's etc
