Need Urgent Help! Piranhas upside down!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if i read right f1, they can take more then one heater?

Each heater is rated to a specific wattage load. This jbj is rated at 1,000 Watts so I could for example plug 3x 300watt heaters into it.

Rain we've established why his fish died.....

F1 thanks for the info. I guess I'll be looking into a couple of these in the future. What would be cool if one has multiple probes that control specific outlets so u could use one on two tanks side by side.

I use temperature controller for my tank too. I have my two 300W heaters in the sump and the prob is in my main tank. this way you have a double protection there. in the even the heaters fail the temperature controller won't let it go above the set temperature. in the even the temperature controller fail your heater itself will cut off once it reach the set temperature on the heater. you are only out of luck when both failed at the same time.
RIP, those reds look really nice and have great color on them.
if possible do more frequent small water changes would be better than doing on large one, if your schedule allows. for example, if you do 10g a day vs 70g a week, it'll cost less parameter fluctuation when you change out only 10g at a time. and you don't let the waste build up, better for the fish too.

Haven't gone thru all the posts here!!
Generally , i would advice.you keep some ada rio base handy, whenever you feel a big water change causing trouble dump this and it literally laminates your fish in a protective slime coating.

The last one also died :( I hate heaters! Didn't even need one in the climate zone of my city, don't know why I bought one! Anyways will burry the fella tomorrow morning... He was struggling real hard, good in a way that he was taken out of his misery.. Lets see now already got a FlowerHorn tank and a community tank of Orandas, Black Ghost, Blue Goramis, etc. Will retire the piranha tank for some time..

Wanted to know if prolonged oxygen deprivation can cause serious damage in fish like difficulty breathing and loss of balance even after maintaining normal oxygen supply later?

-It doesn't seem to be swim bladder disease or any infection cause it took all the fish together at the same time in a matter of hours... Seems real efficient and high level bacteria so no..
-Water quality was not the issue cause I changed the water the night before and they were fine.. Had a look at them at 3am in the morning and they were swimming around.
-Leaves us with either electrocution or oxygen deprivation. The later makes more sense cause the Pleco in my Piranha Tank survived and is healthy since they are known to live in low oxygen levels and varied temperature range.
-Or its a Act of God..

Anyways.
Lesson learnt :

* Avoid cheap heaters and if you can then just avoid heaters!
If you are not sure or experimenting with them never leave the heater on for long periods without checking in at regular intervals.

-Check your electric equipment from time to time for loose connections and avoid cheap quality stuff like extension cables, multipins etc. especially for aquarium equipment. They are the part that can flip the balance real quick.

Unfortunately I had to learn the hard way hope people benefit from my fish and the mistakes I made.

This forum has always been helpful and supportive :)
And thank you to F1.Vet, has always been helpful.

AHA! I think I see the problem. if you live in a tropical region and with a heater your basically roasting your fish. depending on temps, I might even look into chillers
