Need your input! New vs Used Cars?!?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just need something reliable. Hence the question of whether or not a new one is really worth it.

Not into cars much....

A number of my friends and neighbors, that do new car shopping, take in mind the Hybrid cars....Not so much is the fascination with the fastest sport car or giant SUV, but now it is the Green Planet concept.....So if you do decide on a new car, try looking through the Hybrid section....May cost an extra $5-10,000, but it should pay for itself in the long run....

What is your budget???

AGREED....Plus if the motor goes busted or gets old, you can easily swap it for les than $2000 from over overseas....Most used Jap engines now are under80K and have lots of super mods already attached to it...

Certified pre-owned is the way to go... they have better warrantys then new cars, they are a little used or they were previously owned, should be clean and have low mileage, most dealers will offer cpo cars with a 100,000mile warranty, and they are a little cheaper then new cars. Yes new cars are not always reliable sometimes they can go into a shop just as much as a used car. An example is if you buy a cpo car then you buy a car with like 5k-35k on it and get a 100k warranty as opposed to buying the new car getting the 5k or 5k-50k service plan.

I would say that if your debating the question of new or used, you wondering about reliability, cost, warranty so forth and so on. Me personally, if I have a 20K budget for a car, I would much rather get a used Infinitey G35 Coupe then a new Civic LX......You can get a car a few years older, a much nicer, higher level car for less money then a new subcompact....The downside is, you don't know for certain the maintenance history of the car, you don't know if it was abused and so forth. If you go used and want reliability, try to go factory certified. They offer full warranties and sometimes they are better warranties then the original.

If you don't mind a car that is slightly broken in, go used and save money, plus get leather and a sunroof for the same price as cloth and hubcaps....

Now go get a 300C V8, put it on some 24's and do the damn thing

Are these only offered through actual dealerships? Thank you Ash, this is exactly what I wanted to know!

So would you discourage a used car that was NOT CPO?

Anybody else?

:)

Yes CPO cars would be found at dealerships, usually they are loaners, demos, dealer trades things of that nature, they usually have low miles, they cost less then new cars and the dealer should have all of the records for the cars on file. Most dealers will offer much much longer warranties on cpo cars as apposed to new cars (they make money in the cost of a new car with the addition of service palns etc.) Most new cars now days come with really crappy service plans (warrantys).

I wouldnt totally discourage a used car that isnt a cpo, but I would make sure you know everything about that used car first just to make sure all the maintance was done. (its also cheaper to buy a non cpo used car from someone rather then a dealer). non-cpo used cars wont come with any warranty or service plan unless the previous owner hasnt gone over the mileage or time for their warranty then you can take it in untill that mileage or time expires, but for that to happen the car usually wouldnt be more then a year or two old and you would be really lucky.
