Needing a change

Native fishrangethroat darters,Redfin pikerel,and other natives can be pretty cool,jonahs aquarium and Zimmerman fish have some cool stuff.

Interesting idea. Never thought of natives, always thought they required colder water. At least the ones native to here to.

I was thinking of one of the two following with a tank that size:

First, a saltwater tank, either a reef tank with some fish or a FOWLR setup. Kind of depends on if you want to tuna sump or not.

Second, a native tank with sunfish. No need for a heater and they are very pretty fish.

Can you tell us if your tank is drilled or not, and what kind of filtration are you running/willing to run on the new setup?

I would love a big saltwater reef tank. I have a 10 gallon reef on my kitchen counter that is really fun to watch. Unfortunately I don't have the money to set up a 125 gallon reef tank.

Tank is not drilled, I have a couple of power heads and a FX5 currently running. I also have a eheim 2217 that isn't being used that I could hook up as well.

Yeah.

I always thought that wolf fish got way to big for my tank? Would be a interesting combination though.

Did they die of old age?

The severum was only about 4 years old same with the angels. Not sure what they died from. Came home from work one day and the severum was dead.

Mbuna make a nice display tank imo.

I had mbuna once before, they are nice, but I think I want to try something different.

Yeah! But need to grow the wolf at least 2 feets long before adding Neon lol
Keep a grow out wolf vs 1000 Neon...It's a expensive investment become meals hahahaha
*Anyway, I saw similar setup 1 giant wolf and huge school of Neon on youtube. It's truly amazing scene.

I couldn't find the video on youtube. Does sound like a interesting combination though. I can't see the neons lasting long though.

That is a awesome looking moray! That would be a awesome fish to have. I think I would need a bigger tank if it's 36" long though.

How about a black mask elongatus?

That could be a possibility. I haven't done the carnivore/aggressive tank before.

Keep your current fish and add a large peaceful centre piece, pearsae or archer fish.
Or a lone predator hidden in a mass of plants, maybe elongatus piranha or red/black wolf.

I was thinking of this as well. Problem is I'm not sure what a good center piece fish would be.

Aren't archer fish brackish water?

Ok that video was pretty cool. Although the wolf fish would be too big for my tank, I think a big center piece fish and a bunch of smaller schooling fish would make for a interesting tank. The question is what would that main fish be.

You've got a6 ft tank.
I think a common wolf or better a black wolf is very doable. The black will be more active during the day.

OK. when it comes to piranhas, you really have to LIKE piranhas. Truth be told, piranhas, while fascinating to some can be frustrating to others. Each fish is an individual, and the youngsters, due to their natural environment, tend to be leery of any large moving object which they will likely consider a potential predator. At this point, (I already have a piranha tank) if I had a 125, I believe I might consider a Parachromis Motaguensis. Colorful, AGGRESSIVE, interactive, full of personality, and will max out at about a foot. Kind of like a slightly scaled down dovii. But, the decision is up to the person who will actually be tasked with maintaining the tank in question. When asking what one should stock a tank with, you will be confronted with a plethora of suggestions, each one according to the tastes of the suggestees. I wish you luck. Do your research, and when you figure out what YOU want to do with it. set the tank up accordingly. please bear in mind that some of these fish have significant lifespans, and that a certain species should not be chosen on a whim. They are living creatures that deserve proper care from a knowledgeable keeper for the duration of their lifespans. Please choose wisely, and when you have made your choice, please stick with it.
