Needing a change

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My tank is 72" x 18" x 24"

As cool as a wolf fish would be, they are going for $250+ each in my area which is too expensive for me.

The argentea or zonatus would be a good idea. Those are nice looking fish! Maybe a big cichlid of some kind with a bunch of smaller schooling fish ? Although it seems all the big cichlids don't play well with others.

hoplias microlepis theyre cheaper than the other hoplias sp and the smallest growing also.
or you can go with the ery sp. if your looking for wolves both are cheaper alternatives to the
larger hoplias sp. like lac, curu and aimara.

I vote trimac or any parachromis (not dovii though. All of these fish are smart, interactive and beautiful. Having a wet pet or a pair would be a drastic change from a community tank.
I recommend parachromis losellie. I miss this male. He had so much personality.

That is a really cool looking fish. But it seems like they do better alone.

On the weekend I went to one of the local fish stores and there was a huge frontosa which my gf loved so she is really pushing for one of those. What would be some good fish to keep with them?

Other Tanganyikan cichlids, possibly tilapia tanganicae if there's enough space, calvus, tropheus...

Parachromis loisellie isn't an overly aggressive cichlid. I kept him w/ other CA cichlids like robertsoni, HRP, JD, h. nicaraguensis, v. Melanurus and 5 astyanax bimculatus. He was great with the cichlids, no aggression at all, but he almost killed one of the astyanax bimculatus. I got rid of him after that, because those astyanax are nearly impossible to find. Especially that species. Parachromis loisellie is a pretty easy fish to find. The tank was a 150g.
I haven't kept frontosa before, so I couldn't tell you how they would do together. The water ph and hardness requirements are similar though.

Frontosa will be happier in a group regardless whatever else you put in there. I always tell people: if you can't do five then don't do any.
