I wanted originally to put a gar in with a clownknive but we didnt have any in stock. How are the two getting along? I would consider a silver arowana but im not so sure about the jaridini. We had one once and it was an aggresive s.o.b. lol

Gar really arent aggressive fish, they're skiddish, however they will eat any fish the size of their mouth if not bigger when there hungry...
other than that there great fish

hey guys
there is no centre bracing...the stand is level and supports the perimeter of the tank. im thinking that since its a hagen tank, that they know what they are doing. the tank seems fine now bit there is 1/16 inch bow on each side but it is half inch glass so it should handle it.

as for the gar...i just picked it up today from my lfs. it is in a "semi-divided"tank with my bgk and clown knife. the bottom is divided with space for the gar to swim on top. the gar/bgk/clown knife is housed in a 55 gallon for 2 weeks before the 112 is done cycling. good news is that is it already eating (hand feed thawed silversides) lol. as for the tank mates, im thinking some kind of bichir and a silver arowana (until arawana gets too big and needs to be moved to a larger tank)...the clown and gar will also prob need that too. here is what the new gar looks like. it is 9 inches right now.

nice gar, im not sure if its the camera but does it have light color scales? I would think thats a younger one. The one we use to have was about a year old and much darker. They are fun to take care of! Someday when I get a bigger tank, Im definetly going to get a gar.

If my memory serves me correct, our gar was light like yours. Like I said, ours was older. Or it could just be thats the natural color of the scales. Im sure it will darken up a little in the months to come. Take care of him, they're an awesome fish and I miss ours.

For the most part, yes. One gar use to literally stay near the top of the water and swim a lot. While the other sat at the bottom, or layed on the rock decoration. As far as eating other fish, I think there was one incident with that, dont quote me on that considering that was a while ago. I never had a problem taking care of them. Do not put your fingers near his mouth, u dont want to confuse him lol. With our last gar, I got to the point where he would let me, I know this sounds weird, but he would let me pet him lol without him freaking out. THEY DO NOT LIKE NETS. if theres one thing I learned, its that. And keep them fed especially if you're going to mix it with other fish. They can eat lol.

just read on another post that they lose their color a bit when its night...even the stripe on their eyes. when its daytime, they will get darker...cant wait to put him in the bigger tank lol

Really? Interesting lol. Since I saw him pretty much all the time, the notice in color didnt catch my eye. BUt yeah, wait till you get him in a bigger tank and he takes up like half of it and his meal time is a joy to watch. I remeber reading on some fish website that the gar (not sure if its the one you have) can be up to 6ft in length? Can anyone comment on this cuz thats a longgggg fish lol.
